Default How many miles until it\'s time to replace shocks/struts

My car seems to feel a bit loose. I've got 53K on the odo and I have done about 12 track days.

How long do the stocks usually last?

Mine are still doing well after 36000 miles. I have 2 track days and plenty of back road driving on them. Your milage will vary.

Ive got about the same mileage as you, and i feel the same as you - Its starting to feel a little sloppy

Its really hard to put a mileage number on struts because it so much depends on how the car is driven daily.

Its hard to measure how worn the dampners actually are, but im sure theyve lost some dampning after 50k miles
Im planning on upgrading anyway, so what better reason

Also after 50k miles im sure that some rubber bushings are starting to dry rot and wear.
I think this is just about the mileage where you start to feel the suspension starting to get tired.
Probably a combination of struts, springs, and bushings starting to wear.

I just had the shop replace a busted rear shock and front swaybar endlink (35k miles) and had a front strut replaced earlier.

With all that done- the car feels brand new.

If you are doing a bunch of track days I would say get rid of the stock stuff and get some good aftermarket stuff. I think you are ready to move up.

I had a leaky strut at 39K, than control arm bushing problems at 41K, but rear shock still going good at 67k.

Ive got almost 60K on mine with pro-kit springs and they are starting to feel alittle sloppy. Im just going to save and get some good aftermarket ones.

I dunno, but after looking at my F-150's shocks at 36k miles I have reason to believe that stock shocks suck! True they are off a truck, but I could easily slide them in/out by hand.

Nothing a quick order from Bilstein couldn't fix! Those SOB's were a pain to compress!
