    Default Turbo kit questions

Ok, so I'm about 60% saved for my turbo kit, looking to have the rest by late summer, mid fall at latest. I want to make the final decisions on the parts I'd like to have. My car is a 2008 Focus S with 78,800 miles and will be a DD (8-10k miles a year) with some autox. I'm aiming for about 250hp. I'd like to be able to have a dual boost setup, running either something like 6 and 12psi. I'd like to be able to switch between them from in cabin, turn on the high psi at the track and drive the lower psi normally the rest of the time. What boost controller would be best? I'm considering the eBoost2, but it is a bit pricey. Is it worth the extra cost for that controller? I also want the lower psi because i'll have the clutch done later this year, but want to get the turbo done and out of the way. Also, I'd eventually like to get the gauges installed where my current radio screen is. I think the GT2871R was recommended for me but was also wondering what the differences between it and the GT2871RS are. I'd also like to drive down and have Vik or the guys in the shop to install it. How much advance notice do I need to do this? I will probably drive down for a short vacation and visit some family while this is getting done. After which, I'll drive back home. Thanks!

Also, what are the differences in wastegates?

EDIT* Correction, diverter valve, not wastegate.

Run the regular setup the 2871r is best . You can only run a minimum of 8 lbs because that is what the wastegate actuator is rated for I don't need the e boost controller the boost tee will work just fine. U can run it into the cabin and just turn it up when needed remember u set the max level of boost doesn't mean the car is always running at 12 psi. When u step on it is when u get that full boost and are at 12 psi. My friend has a sr20 that he dailys on 25 lbs but he doesn't get on it every single day so it doesn't see 25 lbs unless he gets on the gas. The diverter valves are nice they just would different depending on which you have

I'm not sure you can get down to 6psi with our WG actuators. It's going to be more like 8 or 9psi at the lowest depending on the exhaust. The eBoost2 is definitely worth it if you use the features that it comes with. I used it and we use it on all of our project and race cars.

For autocross, the GT2871R may or may not be the best option. What final drive do you have in your Focus?

As for installation questions, Vik will need to hop on here and reply when he has some spare time. We're trying to get the warehouse in order right now.

It'll be some time before I get around to the installation, assuming I buy the used kit. The new kit will be much later this year. If I can only get 8 minimum, that's fine. I just wanted the low end for DD and higher power availability for the track. If I get the used, I'll order the higher end turbo down the line.

i know on my set up from playing with the settings on my greddy EBC i was able to get as low as 5.5psi with the standard WG on my kit, that is also with an upgraded turbo back and cosworth manifold. It does feel pretty weak running that low of boost to be honest tho. I would run the 8psi on the street and as you get more comfortable with the car you will tend to always have it up like i ended up doing. It gets redundant swapping boost levels unless you are running a stupid set up that wont get traction at all on your street tires, then it makes it worth while

im running the standard stage 2 kit with the boost tee and i love it. and you dont need the adjustment in the cabin really, unless you want it for show. it takes 3 seconds to pop the hood and twist it

as far as levels of boost goes, i can get mine down to around 6 or 7 psi on the WG that came with the kit, which is a very good amount of power here in the winter on my snow tires. ive taken it up to 11psi a few times and holy ****... its awesome

i have a bailey diverter valve that fswerks used to carry, and it sounds great. i get some flutterdump from time to time, but it sounds great. i might be looking into the turbosmart dual port soon though!

Randy i know the eboost2 has alot of features over a lesser product but what does it bring to the table for the cost? i have thought about getting one many times also.

That would depend on the lesser product. You'd just need to compare features in both. See how you feel about them. Having them or not.

Get the 12-14lb adjustable wastegate and install it at 3 rotations preload without the boost tee. Night and day difference over the 7psi gate + boost tee to 11psi. The boost comes on sooooo much smoother and holds a lot better in higher rpm with no spiking.
