Default LCD screen, VCR, race camera install

I recently aquired an EyeSeeYou camera and 5" LCD screen. I'm planning on mounting a DC VCR under the passenger side seat, and mounting the camera to the passenger seat's head rest for use during auto-x. Now here comes the interesting part. I also want to mount the LCD screen in the glove compartment for playback between races to see what I'm doing wrong, and what I can improve upon to shave those few vital seconds off my trap. Has anyone here mounted a LCD screen in their glove compartment? I need ideas since I refuse to pay a local shop $400 (including cost of a VCR) for install of these three pieces.

Thanks.

One way that you can do it is to get a piece of Lexan at a local plastics place and cut it to fit in the position you want in the glovebox. I also have a few different types of monitor mounts which could work if screwed to the back part of the box. PM me your info and I will send a different mount if you need one.

I hope you like the setup, let me know how it works and get pictures! Also once you do some runs, if you can send me a copy of a tape I will convert it and put it up on the site. Did you get the camera with audio?

I doesn't have audio, but I am thinking I will setup a seperate mic and mount it above the rearview mirror. I figure its a good spot to get most of the car sounds without getting wind noise from having the windows down. It should hook right up to the VCR's audio input, right?

I have a few questions about the camera. Is it safe to mount outside of the vehicle? I was thinking of experimenting around with different camera spots. It would be mounted inside something that would protect the lense from flying debris.

As far as mounting the screen, I have a source for carbon fiber sheets. I can get a decent size piece for about $40. I would get a piece of plywood to mess around with and get a template before I actually start cutting into the carbon fiber. I will post pics as soon as I get this done, which won't be for a while since I have limited fundage for the VCR and everything to supply power to these 3 pieces.

Forget plastic or carbon fiber sheets man, use fiberglass!!! I just installed my 5.6 lcd screen in my glovebox and I love it. The surrounding looks very stock and I used vinyl to cover the fiberglass. It's tight. Need any help just ask

The passenger head rest is a common mounting point for cameras for those auto-xers who don't have a cage. The Focus seat back is a fairly sturdy piece, but eventually I'd like to have something more solid to mount it to. I'll probably get a cage when I can afford to buy another daily driver and turn this car into my weekend toy.

I am nort sure which camera you have so I don't know if it is an outdoor type. As far as vibration with the camera mounting, try to avoid doing the headrest mount. What I use for my personal cars (not for show mind you just function) is a shower rod. I have used the horizontally behind the seats and vertically between the seats and mount the camera mount to the rod with hose clamps. This will not work well with the camcorder mounts! Camcorders are too heavy for this type of mount and will usually have vibration anyway just from flex in the case and the mount. Also long-term use of your camcorder on a camcorder mount will really wear the heads and/or eventually ruin the head alignment.

I will get a picture for you of the cheap route with the shower rod this weekend.

Damn...that is a good idea! I wonder if the SCCA tech people at an auto-x will have a problem with this since it techically isn't a fixed object.
