Double Din Install

Has anybody installed a double din in thier 2000 to 2004 ford focus. Just looking for a little help.

here is my setup from a while back... right after i finished painting the bezel... hadnt even installed the hazard switch... looks quite a bit different now... but anyways

mine is an Eclipse w/ Nav. and twin dvd slots behind the face (motorized face)... it was a tight fit but worked out nicely.

i did...the bezel trimming and fitting was the most time consuming

i am not sure if Op is still looking to do this custom stuff..

here is mounting kit you can fiberglass into radio bezel..
i used 05+focus, f150 double din kit which requires lots of cutting..


but take a look at this, this will minimize cutting work..
this kit is for 05~07 escape

thats what i used to make the opening the right size then glassed it

And.....kept the stock dash panel.



It's not pretty behind the dash, nor is the bottom of the 4 way flasher unit since it had to be dremelled half to death.....but it's in there and has been (in fact I'm on my second DDX-7017) for many years, and lots of driving.

so thats with no trimming of the actual stock opening, correct??

If you ever get rid of your Focus, I want to buy your stereo setup. That is the ONLY aftermarket setup in an 00-04 Focus that I like other than stock. Every aftermarket kit you can buy doesn't look right, but that deck with your custom trim piece flows so perfectly. That's exactly how I would want to do it in my car!

I have a n00b question? How the hell do you get off the dash trim thing around the stereo? I feel like I'm going to break or scratch up the flimsy plastic. I have an aftermarket single din kenwood deck that a friend installed...now when it's time to vinyl dye, I cant get anything off...

The outer opening was left alone, however, I did have to trim just inside the opening top and bottom. Sides didn't need any trimming.

The trim bezel, thingy, is an audiophile (yes, the donor was toast) face dremeled to near oblivion. Hence the good fit.

Take out the head unit, and you'll see three 7mm hex bolts on the inside edges of the bezel (they're either 7mm or 8mm, but I'm pretty sure they're 7mm). Take those three bolts out and you should be able to pull the bezel out. It clips in so it will give you resistance when trying to pull, but it shouldn't break as long as you pull it straight out.

Be careful, though, because when you get the bezel out, you'll have to unplug all the wiring harnesses for the a/c and the lighter/12v socket. That should be it.
