Default Second USB 08+ Focus

I have managed to stumble on to a site that claims to have found the second USB port for the new focus

http://fordsyncforum.com/index.php?/topic/187-usb-2/ (have to register to see it)

It's a mini USB under the dash panel on the Passenger side that reads Focus,it sounds like you can access it by removing the glove box. Anyone confirmed this? I am going to try looking for it later today. If it is there, then a USB device would be hooked up in the glove box, which would be much safer than out in the open.

A search on fj just shows a single post that people claim no its not there. Talking to sync (my radio) you can say USB 2 and it says no device connected which says there is a USB 2. Way to keep us in the loop ford.

I found the 2nd USB today. It's a mini USB (probably what you are used to seeing used with your camera). This presents a problem for most people who would want to actually use this spot. I have a 2" male mini to male full size USB. That does no good for me. So ten dollars and two ebay 'buy it now's later and I've got my problem fixed on the way. I want to use my ipod and leave it in the glove box, so I found a male mini USB to female usb (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching) and a 20cm (~8") ipod cable (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching) this should work out to perfect length. Could have skipped this, but I figured I might as well do it right. There's no extra length having to be Here are some pictures of what's there. Just take out the glove box (3 6mm bolts), lay down in the floor board and turn on a light.

Its the short black wire that ends with a USB, Its upside down and shaky but you can see where it plugs in.

This is a camera cord, it's longer and white so easier to see. I'm looking forward to getting everything hooked up and looking nicer.

Finally got everything I ordered in today. Plugged it all in and snapped a couple pics. IF you have skinny hands and long fingers you can get to the miniusb port without taking the glove box out, but it was still a tight squeeze.

My finger is on the wires I plugged in. Like I mentioned before, it's a male miniusb to female USB and a short ipod cord. It worked out perfect.

And there it is in the glove box chillin and hidden away, this is really nice since the glove box can be locked too. I think the next thing will be getting some sort of light in the glove box.

I wonder if the Fusion has the same thing? I guess it doesn't really matter because I already have a hidden USB in the arm rest.

Apparently all the sync systems have two USB ports, it's just finding them. There are some non-ford sponsored sync sites that explain where they all are from focus to mustang, to flex and fusion. Syncmyride.com has some mention of it, but it doesn't explain where they are. However, most of the sync sites are full of people that are not very mechanically inclined. The focus people on there were concerned they might break something if they tried to take out the glove box, or they didn't know how.
