Default Vacuum Gauge Install

Hi, I'm new 'round here and I've got a 2000 SE (106,000 miles) Zetec with a K&N SRI, a Magnaflow 4.5", no resonator, and am adding a vacuum gauge.

I can kill all the wiring easy but I'm not sure which vac line to tap into.

Any of these right?

Thanks.

I drilled and tapped an 1/8" NPT barb in my intake manifold, and ran mine from there. As the DPFE lines are huge, and the second picture contains nothing but fuel. So my advice drill it, tap it, call it a day.

DO NOT USE THE FUEL LINE IN THE 2ND PIC

How would you get it to stay in a drilled hole?

If either the other lines, not in the second pic apparently, would work I'd prefer to use them just because I never like drilling stuff of which I'm not sure how they work. And my T-piece looks like it'd fit beautifully with the 'huge' lines.

What? Anyways, I checked and the bottom picture's line says "FLAMMABLE FUEL" ( I imagine this is what liquid meant by the 2nd pic)

Just look at the rear of the intake manifold and find a suitable line, cut it, put in a T...and go.

Just out of curiosity, why are you adding the vacuum gauge?

Alright, I did this before I saw what Heat said but it's still kinda pathetic... I cut the left line in the second pic and put the T there, no vac reading. When I went to radioshack today to get wiring since I still needed it I took the gauge out to match the gauge of wire and forgot to connect the vac hose and as I started up and backed up I heard something that didn't belong, saw my gauge on my passenger seat, cussed, and when I picked up the hose there was no pressure or vac at idle. When I went on the gas it gave a little bit of pressure. And as of now I got a new T that i'm going to put in the wrong line and block off the open end. As for what heat said, how do I know which one to use, and if it's even a vac line...preferably without repeating my dumb assery

The lines in the second picture are for the DPFE/EGR system. I'm not sure which line has which, but I know that they are modified by that black box.

As it has been determined, the line in the 3rd picture is a fuel line. Not going to help you unless you are doing a fuel pressure gauge.

The lines in the 1st and 2nd pictures are related to the DPFE/EGR system and do not have reliable vacuum readings.

I just took a quick look at my 01 and it seems the line that comes out of the middle of the rear of the intake manifold looks the best. It's the only standard sized line and it seems to snake through the intake runners. It looks like it's spliced together in one section where you would be able to separate the lines, add the T, and then reconnect. I'd would just double check and see where the lines goes and make sure it's nothing that is critical where a slightly different vacuum reading would impede the engine. Also, make sure to seal the NPT fitting on the back of the gauge with teflon tape. If not, it will leak.

BTW, are you boosted or planning to? If not, the vacuum gauge won't tell you anything really unless you are trying to diagnose a problem.

the dpfe lines are NOT VACUUM LINES, they are exhaust lines. actually look at the back of the intake manifold there are a few small " VACUUM " lines tap in there.

Amen!

I snipped this wire on the fact that I was fairly certain it was coming from the back of the intake manifold and a really decent hope lol. Didn't have a heartbeat until I started her up and saw the needle jump. It doesn't look like it's on there very good but that T has 3 different sized shoulder things...I couldn't get the clear vac tube over the T that came with it for my life, put it in near boiling water for a minute, pushed it on so hard it split so I had to snip it off and try again.

Works great. Although, the gauge has 7 colors and is supposed to remember what color it was on when you turn off the car but it doesn't. But that might be because I hooked it to the radio fuse rather than the headlights like it said but whatever, small stupid thing.

Over time that clear line will harden and turn yellow with engine heat and likely come off of that "T", or split like you found out already. So next available chance you get, pick up some rubber vacuum line available at any auto parts store to replace atleast the section thats in the engine compartment. Just helping a brotha out.

On the bright side, it's better to find out this way than 100 miles from home with a huge vacuum leak.
