Default Power windows, power locks, power mirrors

I am looking to install power windows, power mirrors, power locks in my ZX3 S...which came with power absolutely nothing.

Where do I start, and what will I need?

Thanks

i will tell you that the focus is one of the more difficult vehicles to add power locks to, but it can be done. just need door lock actuators and a set of switches if desired (or hook to a keyless entry system. heavy duty window kit. not sure what's available for adding the power mirrors for aftermarket, but factory ones can be installed. I VERY strongly reccomend professional installation n all of these for functinoality and safety reasons.

I thought about doing the same thing. However it was more work then it was worth. Especially when you could just buy a car with those options. You would have to buy all the switches, new door panels, etc. The biggest problem I see is wiring all that stuff and making it work. It would have to done by someone that knows what they are doing.

the power locks at the alarm shop seems like a possibility.. I could just go with the full alarm system too.

the windows and power mirrors seem like they will be a huge project to undertake, and probably not worth it.

power locks can be added easily, if you only want them for keyless entry. the best way to do this is buy the door latches for a power lock car and have the keyless wired directly into the electronic latch. everything can be done, although pretty intensive wiring wise. MJMallon did it on his car, power nothing to power everything including cruise control. I have all the stuff to do it, just haven't had the time yet.

I have a set of power mirrors if you're interested. I'm not sure if you have the wiring or not, check behind the manual controls for a plug. $50 for the set if you're interested. I'm working to wire up heaters on my new mirrors.

SPAL sells power window kits. I installed front ones on my 2007 Focus a year ago. I spent 6-8 hours (being really careful) and I could probably do it in 3-4 hours now. Don't go cheap and buy the one with the heavy duty motor. I never had any issues (just sold the 2007 to my son) but they aren't quite as fast as factory windows. Still, a very good option though. I'm debating installing them on my 2009 I just bought.

just install an 4 door windows electric track and motor on a zx3 and it fit with only an half hour working on it
bought from a junkyhard
and drill a small hole for the switch and voila

For the windows, get the factory power window kits, cheap online. as for the locks, they are tricky. I did my 4 doors on my 2000. If you can find a shop that will do it for 40.00 per door, do it. They will be married to the car for a while. They are cable driven, and almost no linkage to connect to. The factory part is an option, but requires replacing the latch, again - not fun. When I bought my 2007, power locks was a must.

I have never installed power mirrors, but the kits I have seen look decent.

Also keep in mind, the Focus uses a molex connector in the door jambs, which is project itself.

I installed the Colibri kit on the 2009 (had SPAL on the 2007). No difference in use - about 8 seconds per window. Switches are identical between the two kits but I like the Colibri no-binding design better. Even the mounting brackets and caps/gears are the same but both are from Italy so no surprise. I did leave the park light wire disconnected. Orange switches at night clash with the blue OEM lights.

What he said. I bombed out this weekend trying to hook up my heated mirrors, i'll be hitting a junkyard for extra connectors for the Molex plugs. Ugh.

Yes i do.. so far this is what im doing. I have spare wiring harnes, i tracked down the wires that im going to remove from the harnes and put in my car, i also have fuse box from the with power everything on it. I notice on the fuse box wiring harnes in my car was missing a wire for my power windows, i already install that wire, did a quick test, works fine. now i just got to finsh running the wires to the doors ( this is the hard part).

running those wires should be pretty simple because all the holes for them will already exist.

- did you test the power window regulator(s) to make sure they go up and down?
- swap out the 2 regulators and however they attach to the window and/or run channel (I havent done this on a focus so I dont know)
- did you test the power window locks to make sure they work before running all the wires? same with the mirrors
- everything should pretty much be bolt on, just be careful with the glass, wedge it into place with whatever you got so it wont drop if you are a nub and working on the glass.
