Default The Final Svt Seat Swap Thread

I have read through just about every single SVT seat swap thread and I have yet to find a good write up on how to wire them up. Lets make this the last thread on the subject since there are sooooooooooooooo many threads on it with people asking the same questions. So, here is the question again, and hopefully one of you guys on here can take a few minutes and help everyone out.

General Wiring
I have a 2007 ZX3 SE with a set of 2002 SVTF seats in it. How do I wire them in? I have tried to remove the individual plugs from the plastic thing and pulg each one in individually with no success. If I have to cut the wires and splice in the ones from the original seat to the SVT seats, what goes to what?

Seat Belt
If all of the above gets wired in, do the seat belts from the original seats need to be swapped over in order for the sensors to work?

Answer: Any constant 12V source can be used to power the seat. Just follow the wire from the switch or the motor to the corresponding plug, cut it and splice it into a 12v source. I just used the cig. lighter wires since it seemed to be the easiest to identify.

Air Bags
My '07 came with the side impact air bags, will wiring them up correctly make the ones in the SVTF seats functional and get the idiot light to turn off?

Power Seat
I saw nothing that the power seat plug could plug into. Do I just draw off of any 12V source? Does it need to be a remote wire or can it be a constant 12V?

Photos and/or easy to read diagrams showing wire colors would be extremely helpful. As information comes in, I'll post the answers under the questions. Also, if there are no photos available, I can take them while wiring in my seats and I'll post them up for anyone ease that needs the information.

PLEASE HELP! I know there are some of you electrical gurus out there that could do this stuff in your sleep! :-) I'm hoping that if the correct information gets posted with some good diagrams and photos, this thread can get archived.

Here are the answers to some related Frequently asked questions. (If you can think of more, I'll edit this first thread and add it in.)

1. What years will the SVT seats fit into?
- The front seats will fit into all foci of all body styles including the '08 and '09 coupes and sedans.
- The rear seats will only fit in ZX3 ZX5 and station wagon (ZTW) body styles with no modification. Sedans are a definite no go since the latch positions are different.

2. Do I need to use the seat rails from my original front seats ?
- No. The mounting points for all foci are the same in the front.

3. What colors do the SVT seats come in?
- In the U.S., there were 3 different styles of SVT seats.
- Black leather with red cloth inserts
- Black leather with blue cloth inserts
- Black full leather RECCARO
- The mounting points and wiring is the same for the Reccaros as all other SVT seats.

4. (Rear seats) There are four mounting points for the 60 40 split rear seats, but only two holes in my car. Will they fit?
- Yes, they will fit and most people do not use the center mounting points on the seat bottoms.
- It is possible to drill through and use bolts top properly secure the seats.

5. I have a 2000-2001 ZX_ with rear headrests, will they fit in the SVT rear seats?
- From what I understand, the answer is no. (I could be wrong on this) The distance between the holes for the rear headrests to go into on the few ZX3's that came with them is wider.
- Similar subject, the rear head rests will not fit on the front seats and vice versa.

This would be a GREAT thread for a sticky I wish I could help you more man, but I decided to skip all of the wiring headaches and simply removed the seatbelt latch/wiring harness/etc. cluster from my stock seats as well as the SVT seats then simply swapped them around. Of course, this was on an '00 ZX3 that didn't have side airbags, so nothing new had to happen, plus my harness was entirely different from the SVT's plug and this solved that issue.

As for the power seat, my buddy and I were planning on extending that wire to a constant 12V somewhere under the dash (probably something by the radio) because when you really look at the switch on the seat itself, it's simply a fancy toggle switch, so I can't see why it couldn't be hooked up just like one

I think as soon as the rain stops, I'm going to wire in the power portion of the seat. Right now it's stuck in the all of the way up position and I feel like I'm driving a Mac truck lol. I'll take pics of the progress.

I swapped the seatbelts like brian did, eliminated the lights and beeping.

I hard wired the power switch and the heated seat switches ( I also got a svt console).

the airbag light came off after I got a wiring diagram and made the svt plugs mate up with the old zx3 ones.

Last time i had my car apart i had two identical plugs chillin right where the heated seat buttons would be, but i have no heated seats.

Do you have an SVT??

I think all the cars are built the same it is just a matter of whether they have the option installed or not.

Could you make a color diagram to show whwat you did to get the airbags connected?

I am in the same position as Rush, I have a 2007 ZX3 SES and I am trying to fully wire in a set of Recaros. I would like all of the features to work correctly, and the airbag light to not come on. I saw another thread that said in order for the passenger side to work correctly a sensor pad need to be installed.

Actually, on the wagon, you have to extend the latches about an inch or so. When i installed my Recarros in my wagon, the fronts fit like a charm, but the rears didn't, Well, the latch part. So, i used a pair if sockets (tool sockets) to space out the latch.

I intalled my SVT seats last night, and did the same.

As for the front, it's very simple. I just tapped into the cig lighter fuse using one of these -

Routed the wire to the seat. I made a custome connector using an ols stereo install kit i had. Grounded it to the chasis using a screw and it worked great. I can try to get pics, but it's already installed. Might help though.

The SVT's i just installed don't have heat, but the recaros i had did. I never wired that though, i'm in SoCal.. don't need it

I was wondering when you might chime in. :-)

I'll update the information on the rear seats in a wagon to the correct information.

I already wired in the power, I just need to wire the seatbelt (i'm just going to swap seat belt buckles) air bar, and the other one which I'm guessing is a weight sensor for the passengerside air bag.... I'm going to take a shot in the dark on it tomarrow. If all else fails, I blow the air bag and I put my stock seats back in.

Haha, sorry. I hadn't seen this thread till now.

Ok, here's what i did -

I placed the latch on the out side, rather than inside and just extended using 2 sockets per side. You can see them when the seats are up.

For the front, yeah, just swap the belt buckle. I actally replaced the entire dealio. Even the conector box from my stockers. that way, they'll just plug right up. I left the air bag and sensor disconnected, just hid the wires under the seat.

The front -

Good luck bro!

I added it to the How-To list.

BTW, when it comes to teh seat belt. you can unbolt the seatbelt harness and recepticle from your stock seat and bolt it to the SVT seat with no problem. That way, you retain use of the sensor and don't get the chime and the airbag light won't come on.

I also use the SVT harness that comes from the car, obviously it was cut out, and used that to make a pigtail harness.
I got my seats back in the day from SVT Salvage so he had cut the seat wiring harness right out of the cars main harness

The connector diagram returns!

Sorry everyone, I had to shuffle around all my webhosting services, and just wanted to get this back online for everyone.

here you go!

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

And Below is the original write-up I did on the pin-outs, cheers everyone!

HUGE DISCLAIMER!!!!! when I say "wire to driver/passenger seat harness
pin X" that was only guaranteed to be correct for the 2004 model year
car, I recommend buying the official ford wiring diagram for your
model year off ebay to see if the connectors were still wired the
same.

Just a note, this is a comprehensive list of what each pin in each of
the SVT seat connectors is for, and where they would typically be
wired to in the regular seat connectors, your seats may not have every
connection listed here if they don't have the seat heaters.

For the Driver seat:

svt pin 1: driver side-airbag signal: wire to driver seat harness pin 9
svt pin 2: driver side-airbag return: wire to driver seat harness pin 10
svt pin 3: not used
svt pin 4: not used
svt pin 5: seat heaters switched power pass-through: jumper with svt pin 11
svt pin 6: heated seats switched power: wire to driver seat harness pin 5
svt pin 7: seatbelt buckle sensor signal: wire to driver seat harness pin 3
svt pin 8: seatbelt buckle sensor return: wire to driver seat harness pin 4
svt pin 9: powered seat-height power: wire to constant power
svt pin 10: powered seat-height ground: wire to ground
svt pin 11: seat heaters switched power pass-through: jumper with svt pin 5
svt pin 12: seat heaters ground: wire to passenger seat harness pin 8
svt pin 13: seat track position sensor signal: wire to driver seat harness pin 1
svt pin 14: seat track position sensor return: wire to driver seat harness pin 2

For the Passenger seat:

svt pin 1: passenger side-airbag signal: wire to passenger seat harness pin 9
svt pin 2: passenger side-airbag return: wire to passenger seat harness pin 10
svt pin 3: seatbelt pretensioner switched power: wire to passenger
seat harness pin 5
svt pin 4: seatbelt pretensioner signal return: wire to passenger seat
harness pin 6
svt pin 5: heated seats switched power: wire to passenger seat harness pin 1
svt pin 6: seat heaters switched power pass-through: jumper with svt pin 11
svt pin 7: seatbelt buckle sensor signal: wire to passenger seat harness pin 3
svt pin 8: seatbelt buckle sensor return: wire to passenger seat harness pin 4
svt pin 9: not used
svt pin 10: not used
svt pin 11: seat heaters switched power pass-through: jumper with svt pin 6
svt pin 12: heated seats ground: wire to passenger seat harness pin 8
svt pin 13: not used
svt pin 14: not used

klodkrawler05 and I will be working on my seats sometime soon. I just bought his SVT seats from him about a week and a half ago, but nothing wired up yet. I have an 07. My seatbelt light is always on, but there's no beeping/chiming. I don't think my side airbags are functional.....since nothings wired up. Hopefully it'll be all sorted out soon.
