Default Adding factory power windows and locks, a true story...

Everyone has seen kits to add aftermarket (crap) power windows and locks to the Focus.
Nothing works or fits better than factory.
This swap is going on a 01 ZX3.

First swap came the power locks with remote.
You need the module from a power lock with remote.
Pop down the glove box. Mounted to the PCM you'll see a GEM module. My stock one was small with one plug plugged in, and a blue plug hanging loose.
Remove the module, put in the new remote/power lock module, plug in the previously plugged in connector and the previously hanging loose, and re mount the module.
Hit the trunk button on the matching remote, and the trunk will pop open.
Yea, slightly done.
Now the fun begins with the doors.
From the donor car you need the entire door wiring harness and latch assy.
Yank the door panel
Remove the factory latch (not the easiest task as the door handle and lock rods and the like must be removed)
Install power lock latch (swapping lock rods and door handle and key cylinder....)
Now remove the factory door wiring and replace with the donor wiring.
Install the new door handle trim piece with the lock switch
Repeat on other side of the car
Hit the unlock or lock button on remote, should work....Hit unlock or lock on switch
Everything should work, The driver side on my car, I havnt done the pass side quite yet, but not worried about it.

Now....Power windows

Power windows were a whole different story.
We already installed the door wiring harness, so we have a place to plug in the switches and the power window motors.
So away we go
First you have to remove the window glass. Roll the window down a little, remove the 10mm head pinch bolts holding the glass. Carefully remove the glass up and out.
Remove the 4 regulator bolts and the 3 around the crank. Remove the window regulator.
Install the power window regulator, 5 bolts four on the regulator and one near the motor.
Plug in the switches and the motor.
Turn the key on and hit the switchs and NOTHING. Damn.
Check the wiring diagram, check the cars and notice our car is missing 3 wires from the car part of the door harness. Fuses are there and the wiring out of the fuse box.
There is a connector behind the front kick panel, and at the back of the connector is where we start missing wires.
There is a thicker green/blue wire we need. It needs to go to both doors and to the connector at the lower a-pillar.
From the parts car you need to remove the to the door wiring, The plug comes out with a simple twist and you can pull it into the pass compartment. From the back pop out the white locking piece from the plug, and remove pins 5, 9 and 11. Should be blue/green wire, White/purple and (I forget the 3rd color)
Also from the lower a pillar connector you'll need the blue/green wire. Remove the red locking piece, remove the wiring end.
Trace the 2 blue/green wires together and you'll find them connected at a splice to a green/white wire. Cut at the splice.
At about the same length cut the other 2 wires ( the other terminals removed from the door harness piece)

Now back to your car.
remove the lower a-piller connector, red lock , pop in the spade connector, put the connector back.
Now remove your to the door harnesses, remove the lock ring, install the wires at terminals 5 9 and 11.
Connect the 2 green/blue wires together and run one new to the pass side and the same terminal over there
Connect the 2 loose wires to the same terminals on the other side of the car too.
Now turn on the key and enjoy your power windows

Any questions, probbily. I might have left something out, but I spent alot of time writing this.

damn i wish i would have thought about doing it this way. i pulled out the regulators, switches, and the door side harnesses but dont have the 5,9,11 wires and doner car is long gone. i know there are alot of things the same between an 00 and an 04 and so Im not positive but i think the connectors are different at the doors since i'm going from a 00 zx3 to a 04 zx3.

thanks for the write up it should help still.

Job completed today.
I have factory remote power locks and windows now. Factory switchgear, factory window regulators, factory power lock assy's.
Was mostly a bolt in deal. Just had to add 3 wires. I did cheat and ran them behind the dash instead of running them around the whole car.

I have a 01 with power locks but not power windows. Iwould lke to have power windows. What are the chances that I may already have the wiring for the windows included in the wiring for the door locks? I'm not concerned about the door switches as I will be using toggles mounted on my center console.
