Default svt gauges in zx3

I have searched and had no success in this. i am wondering if i can put in svt gauges into my zx3. the cars are about the same year. (svt 2003) (zx3 2002). what im wondering is if i can swap them. how do i do it? does it plug right in? and if so will it calibrate itsself or do i have to calibrate it? how do i wire up the inverter and the oil temp and pressure gauges. thanks for any help.

OK, if your car has a zetec engine, then technically the cluster will work, and the speed and tach should be correct (assuming the needles haven't been messed with.) The mileage will be that of the donor car that the cluster came from, and can only be re-programmed via ford, who then sends off the cluster for re-programming, but not all dealers are willing to do this, so the best bet is to find a cluster with similar mileage to your car.

The oil temp/pressure gauges aren't real gauges, but read their information from sensor data supplied by the svt ECM (which I believe regular zetec cars lack), so they won't work without some serious work, and I'm not even sure what all is required to make them work.

However, the EL-glow (for both the main cluster, and the oil gauges) is powered by the aux gauges (oil temp/pressure) unit, which has the inverter built in, so you need to wire the main cluster to the aux gauges, and the aux gauges inverter power to the car's illumination source.

So, you can wire in all the gauges, but have non-functioning oil temp/pressure gauges, but a factory look, or you can just buy an aftermarket EL inverter off ebay, and forget about the oil gauges.

good luck, cheers!

I have done this to. But I changed all my interior wiring to a SVT but not my engine bay. And I can tell you that the oil pressure gauge will work but not the oil temp. Now if you want I can scan the page out of my book that has the pinout for the dummy gauges.

Just an FYI, if you have access to a Ford VCM you can make the aux gages work. The information is sent via the network. So if it's a zx3 or comparable car it will work. The information is already in the pcm, the new(or used) spedo just has to be re calibrated to the pcm.

you can get the el inverter from a nerdparts store.
also, kragen and autozone have an EL wire thing in their rice lights aisle
found it! use the EL inverter from this thing
