You are better off buying a gauge cluster with a factory tach, and it just clips in with no cutting wires. If you want to use an aftermarket tach you will need to purchase an adapter.

I have a Auto Meter Tach Adapter if you want it. By the way they are more then $30-50 dollars. They are about $70 new.

My car doesn't have a factory tach, so if i get a new factory gauge cluster with a tach will it work?

Yes, you'll just need to make sure it came from the same motor car and swap the mileage over if you wish.

You don't need a tach adapter for the Zetec cars. Just tap into pin 48 on the ECU.
