I'm on a mission to make my interior both passenger-friendly and capable of high sound quality out of the sound system. I'll be using Damplifier Pro and Overkill Pro from secondskinaudio.com (I wish I could say I was being sponsored for this) for the bulk of the sound deadening, and I'll be taking some queues from various threads posted here already (some of bluefront's mods, for example).
I'm already nearly done with the driverside door, but I'll get to those later when I finish both doors. For now, here's the hatch already in progress. I started with the spare wheel well with a single layer of vibration dampener (I did finish the left side after this) ![]() And then cut out a piece of noise barrier to fit. I decided not to glue this piece down as it really didn't seem necessary. It's pretty thick stuff: ![]() ![]() On bumps in the road, I was sometimes getting a clunking sound from the hatch area. I realized when I started this project that it was the jack bouncing around... the foam helped significantly in the department, so I shored up one other little annoying sound I'd sometimes hear: the arm of the jack hitting the jack itself. Some superglue got this foam piece in place for good: ![]() So now we continue with the rest of the hatch... ![]() ![]() ![]() This is where I left off for now... lots more to come, including how to deaden your doors while looking OEM and maintaining access to the door interior (in case of broken window motors and whatnot).

I've been wanting to do this to my focus for a loooooong time. I'll be paying close attention to this since this is a DEFINITE to do to the Miata. Keep up the great work!

You need a rollcage in that Miata first.

I took a sheet of sound insulation cut to match the floor of my trunk and slid it under the carpet. It really does wonders for killing sound in the back of the car. I'm thinking of getting another sheet and extending it to under the back seats and possibly later under all the carpet of the car.

I can't wait to see more updates on this thread, Casey
I'm tempted to do some sound deadening in the Tiburon when I eventually change out the door speakers, even though it's already worlds better than Rattletrap ![]() -Brian

Good thing you seriously upgraded your horsepower - will more than offset the added weight from sound-deadening. Go nuts!

LOL sound deadening isn't THAT heavy. I'll have lots of pics of the doors soon... I had to get the doorpanels finished first. WINK

Saw a couple of neat info-vids on youtube with Buzz Thomson (Previous Truck-U host) giving a couple of "how-to" tips using a product called "Second Skin".
Good luck with your project. 1st vid dampens underside of hood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wn_fqnSBWE Quick vid on doorsill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jlWp...eature=related 9:00 min vid on trunk and interior sound dampening http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5E9m...eature=related

That's the stuff.
I'm using the "Pro" versions of Damplifier and Overkill, which are thicker than the regular versions.

Great mod! I think it's worth it alone for the comfort aspect.
Awesome!!

very cool!
I spent my last saturday gutting my dad's civic and covering it in B-quiet extreme. Made a great difference but I think we'll go back and put some more products in it, Ray has had some great advice for making it even quieter.

If you check out the info on Second Skin's website, they go into some good detail on layering different sound deadening and heat reflecting products.

Looking good Casey, oddly enough, we tend to do the opposite and rip out the factory deadening for weight savings...lol
Must sound good... I mean sound quiet?

LOL yes the doorpanel inserts are finally done.
Yeah it sounds a lot better already... definitely quieted the exhaust noise coming in through the hatch.

Only chicks have good taste? I guess slipster17, Spatakula, Ataru, Chaney, kenzx3, SVT2RS, 98LowRanger, 2focusd and the army of other tastful Focus and ex-Focus owners here are chicks too.

just a random, save monies suggestion...
I just got started on the bronco in sound proofing and I'll pass on a couple hints. 1. If you go to Lowes, in the roofing department, there is a product called "peel and seal". Its a sticky asphalt based, aluminum foil backed product. Made by the same company that produces dynamat. Except without the pricey stamp on it. I got 100 sqft for $55. 2. Also while at the home improvement store, pick up some expanding foam in a can. It has a long nozzle and is fantastic for filling in gaps and spaces behind interior panels and the a,b and c pillars. Keep up the vault work!
