Just curious whether or not the street plates would work with the Ground Control Coilover kit for the 02 focus? These are a great customizable affordable alternative for me but they need to work with the street plates otherwise it would totally blow the budget

The GC's definately do not work with the Race Plates.
Unless the design is 100% different for the street plates than I would guess not. The GC spring is too small a diameter to fit into the race plate.

what size do you need to work in the race plate?
I know that street and race are essentially the same except that the street doesn't adjust as far and used a different bearing material or surrounding as it may be.

The plates are the same size as the as the stock springs.
Sorry I don't know the exact size.

I would think it would work just fine, you just need the spring hat that came with the ground controls. The lcr plates don't care what springs you are using.

I can tell you for a fact that the LCR will not work with the Ground Controls. One of my guys here in the shop spent like 45 minutes on the phone with Leo one morning while trying to make them mate up. The Ground Control springs and hats are only about 1/2, I have never actually measured, the size of the regular springs.

Pretty sure the GC springs are either 2.25 or 2.5inche springs. So the top hat would be roughly that size. So essentially what coilover sets would work with the LCR plates then? I find it hard to believe there are alot of coilovers that use OEM spring size top hats. I didn't pay enough attention when I had the plates installed to see how they interact with the top of the strut assembly.

My v3's were small diameter springs like the gc's, so it's an issue with the spring hat mating with the lcr plate. Are you sure your mechanic didn't leave the oem spring hat on?

i installed the plates and i dont see why the plates would not work with any coilover kit. as long as the coilover has a hat it should work. i know GC does have hats.

I have Koni Sports and race plates.
If someone, anyone can get the Ground Controls to match up with the LCR's take pictures of the install and let me know what to change so I can go back to my GC's. I liked them 1000 times better than the H&R's.

Why 70mm springs and special hats?
What actually gets in the way of installing these with a set of coilovers? Just where the top hat engages the bottom of the plate? The LCR website says the race plates are best used WITH coilovers. Is there some sort of caveat?

Do you have any pictures to confirm? How was the interaction at the top? I really want to get these in before my autocross season starts the end of this month.

It all depends on the where the upper new spring/perch interface with the plates. If I have any doubts I request a detailed print of your parts upper attachment or a sample part so I can verify fitment.
call 586-727-4834 if you have any questions. |

Thanks Leo, I will see if I can get some pictures from Ground Control specific to this application. I already have your Street plates, I don't intend to let go of them either, but I'm not getting the GC's unless I can make them play nicely with your plates.
