Unhappy clunking/popping noise when i turn the wheel

hey you guys, maybe you would be able to help me diagnose my current prob. I have posted a similar thread last year. i posted it , and bout 5 days after the post, it all of a sudden went away.

Well now it is back and with a vengeance. When ever I am turning the wheel sharply to the left, I hear a clunking/popping noise that sounds like it is coming from the driver-side. One of my friends told me it could be that my rack & pinion is going bad. Could it be something else?

I never heard the noise before I took my car for an alignment @ the ford dealership. the whole reason I took my car there in the first place was cuz i had bought and installed tokico hp suspension lowering kit. The day before I got it i went out and bought brand new strut mounts. The dealership said that my alignment was so far out that they had to install 2 front camber/caster kits. Maybe when they installed the 2 camber/caster kits it put a lil bit more strain on the rack & pinion? IDK, After that it was never the same.

please can someone gimme some insight and shed some light on what is makin these sounds

I have a 2003 SVT w/ 100k miles and my car was doing basically the same thing. It didn't happen after a component change like yours but maybe the change you made made the issue noticeable?

DEFINATELY get the steering rack looked at. I just had to change mine, which sucked.

I found this to work well for finding front end suspension noises. Put the car up on jack stands. Then remove the front wheels. Next take your floor jack and jack your suspension assembly up, putting load on it as if your car was sitting on the ground.

Then have a second person sit in the car and turn the steering wheel back n forth. While you listen right next to the suspension. You can also hold onto the sway bar, strut, etc and feel for "clicks".

My car has recently started making a clunking, squeaking noise at low speeds. I'm thinking it is possibly the front sway bar endlinks. I guess it is a fairly common problem and folks upgrade to a beefier endlink from Moog or even Duralast from Autozone.

I had a broken endlink when I bought the car and when I replaced both with the better thicker endlinks with the grease fittings in them, the car started to clunk n clicking n bangin ect ect.

before I start to spend a bunch of money im changing out the sway bar bushings, I cant see it being something else seeing as the only thing the end links connect to are the sway bar and strut so if its not the easiest and cheapest part its gotta be my struts, which would suck cuz I cant be spending $300 on parts right now.

It is almost assuredly your upper bearing not rotating. So what your hearing is the spring slipping in the seat (pop,poppop-pop). What kit did the dealer install to correct the camber/caster?
Clunking however is often most often blamed on bad sway bar links (damaged or loose).
How low is your drop? 1.5" is considered the 'safe' limit if your working with mostly stock suspension parts. Going lower may require additional hard parts to correct the geometry. Cheap upper tower camber kits won't cut it for long. You will need to invest in adjustable rear upper control arms and recommend the new adjustable lower A arms from CFM, and then reinstall the OEM upper strut bearing (which is a ball bearing, Also, Capaldi had some nice adjustable upper bearing units but don't know if there still available).

I think the clunking the OP is refering is in the steering, not in the suspension travel...
