Angry focus gauges going crazy and car dies

I have a 2001 focus and have already dumped 2500.00 bucks into it trying to fix the problem and even the ford place has given up. I need help. Starts fine and runs fine for a while. While driving down the road the gauges will start going back and forth and the car will start running real bad and the motor will die. Sit there for a min. start it up and drive fine for a little while and the process continues. Any help is greatly appreciated.

fuel filter, fuel pump, system flush, tune up, motor mounts that broke from vibration, pcv hose, alternator, ys4z-6a614-ba conector what ever that is on a vaccume leak, new battery, catalytic converter, exaust gas recurculator, cleaned gas tank

sounds like a power problem to me. Here is a break down of what was done to your car and why:

your car came in with a misfire/bogging situation. After checking the ignition, the tech decided to try a system flush. The flush didnt work so he went further and because of the common fuel pump/tank shedding problem, he decided to replace the pump and filter and clean all the shedding out of the tank at the same time. Somehwere in this time frame, he found your PCV elbow torn and replaced that. The vac leak had to be fixed to continue troubleshooting this problem so it got replaced.

The fuel pump and filter didnt fix anything. he didnt actually do a volume test he just shotgunned the pump. This means you didnt need it but good luck trying to get your money back from the shop. They'll tell you it had low pressure or they actually did a volume test but I assure you they didnt.

I dont know what connector that is but my best guess is a coil pack connector. The wires there are known to break over time and its a common source of problems, Im sure you needed it.

A plugged cat or leaking EGR system will cause a bogging/ no power issue so He replaced these items. A vac gauge will tell you if the exhaust is plugged so he should have done that. If you got the call about this late in the week, he probably didnt do it. The pay week was almost over for flag times so he would have just shotgunned it on a hunch to try and crank this job out. Im sure it had alot of hours on it so he'd be motivated to move it.

the battery tells me they started sniffing the right trail. A low system voltage or a really bad battery will cause bogging/stalling/misfiring. The battery probablly tested bad on the AVR but ultimately wasnt the cause of your problem.

so here we are today. The gauge sweeps indicate a power problem. My best guess without ever driving or even seeing your car would be wiring harness.

is there a way to test if it is the wiring harness and checking the ecu board like the other suggested? I just don't want to dump more money in something that i will never figure out.

Battery harness is my guess, They aren't horribly expensive.

PM me your VIN and a reminder of what it's about and I'll check out the price for you.

Car has never been in a accident or engine change. Also no ECU updates.

check voltage at the terminals of the battery.
    check alternator output.

if its not the battery or alternator, its gotta be a loose ground.

Mine did that crap when my alternator went out. Watch it end up being a bad connection on the negative battery terminal or something, that kind of crap always happens to me.

My money would be on loose or dirty (no contact or intermittant) ground cables. Take them off and clean them. Also clean the surface area where they connect to.

How about the alternator pigtail, that will make gauges sweep and lights come on. That's how mine acted before repair, but I never heard of it killing the engine. However, I think it's worth checking along with the cables and grounds.
