Default Brake Lights not working on a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS

I just bought a used 2002 Focus ZTS. After a couple of days, someone stopped me and said my brake lights are not working. After checking it out, my center brake light is working. It is the 2 on the sides that are not. I began reading online forums for help, I still have a couple of questions.

Some people say it could be the GEM. Where is it located? Can i test it to see if it is the problem?

I've heard you can unplug the brake switch and the brake light stay on. Is this true and where is that located?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirerly?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Next check for power and ground at the sockets to see which of the two you've lost.

Did that too. No power. I checked the fuse and it was good. I suppose it should be if the center brake light works.

I'm trying to pull up the wiring diagram, but they vary significantly depending upon content and body style. What body style (3dr, 4dr or wagon) is your Focus, and is it an automatic or manual trans?

It is a 2002 Focus ZTS. 4 door. It has 3 lights on each of the rear assemblies. Brake, blinker, and running light.
It is also an automatic. If you have the wiring diagram and could share it, that would be awesome.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I can send you a PDF of it. I didn't see a way to send you a PM and attach a file.
