Default cv's and axles

Any recommendations for where to buy cv's and axles for rally? What is everybody else running? I know with the suspensions like DMS when adjusted for max. travel are running at the end of the rotation for the stock cv's. Anyone running aftermarket axles and cv's. And if so, can you recommend any. I've found some in Germany called GKN Motorsports. Any in America?
Thanks,
mark

I am running reman stock units. The only axle failures I had were when the suspension or motor mounts broke.

Plus if you want to stay in spec focus you gotta run stock stuff.

We're stock too - had no trouble until I broke the DMS strut. Then the right side UJ failed.

Other than that they've been very solid.

Damn, sounds like I better check the strut over then. The passenger side cv blew out at Gorman.

Another thing to check is that the passenger axle was completely seated in the transmission. The half circle clamp on the back side of the motor can be secured and the axle will be partly out of the trans. Before WV my trans was acting funky and this turned out to be the culprit. This would have put a lot of stress on the CVs as well since they would be partially compressed all of the time.

Did you end up welding your dif, like you had mentioned on Special stage? I know that people with welded difs eat axles like crazy at slow speeds and high steering angles, like hair pins and parking lots.

No, still open diff. Everything was running great, no problems. Not exactly sure what happened. Chrissie Beavis broke a cv in the same location. I wasn't in the car at the time, but my understanding now is that there was a set of waterbars that may have been the culprit. Hit hard enough to completely dislodge the radiator from its supports.

Dislodging the radiator is not that difficult. It's one of the first things I check (after the fan) when I come into service. One possibility is that when the car was being built that the CV joint was bent beyond the allowable range. The shop manual has very specific warnings on the subject.

Got Pics?

Well it's good to hear that dislodging the radiator isn't too much of a surprise. As far as the CV joint goes. We are running stock control arms and DMS suspension which is supposed to be OEM fitment. We have the spring compressed about 2/3 of the way up the shock so it's not maxxed out. It's hard to say why it went out. I'm going to buy a new replacement today. It sounds like it just needed to be replaced. Everything else on the car looks fine.
