Default Spec ECU Files

All 2.3L Duratecs and SVT Spec Focus Cars must use OEM ECU File or a NASA "Spec" File with XCalibrator 2 from FocusSport. Make sure when you buy the unit from FS, that you ask for the NASA "Spec" File. All other flash files will not be allowed.

All 2.0 Zetecs and 2.0 Duratecs are open to any flash file as long as OEM ECU is used.

These are the main items that will be set for all Spec Files

Set Rev limiter
remove of Speed limiter
ignition timing for race gas for 91 or 94 octane

Really nothing Major or exotic. Just a simple flash file.

People will still be able make minor adjustments... not the full adjustments like you can with other units and files.

Is a Diablo Sport Chip that is attached to a Stock ECU on a Zetec Motor legal?

So you can run race fuel or 94 octane. How much of an improvement is that expected to provide over 91 octane with the SVT spec flash?

You'll be able to run only 91 or 94 octane. But, I would say around 5-7hp.

You can use any kind of gas you want... But the "Spec" Flashes for the SVT and 2.3L Duratecs will be set for 91 and 94 octane only. If you run a 2.0 Zetec or 2.0 Duratec you can use your own flash, and set it for 100 octane.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh OK I getcha. Thanks for the clarification.

(not that an all-motor build needs 100.... but the added safety I prefer, and the smell is oh so sweet)

I think I'm only going to run 91 octane this year. I might look to change in 2007. But, yeah 100 is nice.

You could definately make use of 100 in a Zetec, since the tune is unrestricted and you can deck the head to a max of 10.1:1 CR. Hell, you could tune it to run C16, if you were so inclined.

Actually Greg, if I'm reading this right you can't do that.

Quote:
11.7 Compression The mechanical compression ratio may not be altered directly. However, tolerance of up to 0.50 points over the factory published number is allowed to account for such things as shaving the head in order to true it.

However, it seems a bit odd to me that a Zetec with the FR head and cams would be allowed to use tuning to play with timing and such, but the SVT guys wouldn't. Does the SVT engine still have that much of an advantage over a Zetec with FR head/cams/cam gears?

edit: I should clarify. You can't *technically* just go about decking the head to add half a point of compression. However, my guess is that all Zetecs that show up here will have required just enough shaving to true it as to magically gain exactly half a point of compression.

Because of all the Engine Dyno tests that FRPP has done on these powerplants. They feel these Spec items for each motors will produce pretty close the same HP. Some might have less, but have more torque to make it up. But, if you add HP+Torque they are all real close.

If we feel that the Dyno numbers are off....we'll make adjustments. I don't expect to make any major adjustments during the 2006.... but for the 2007 we'll take all the data, and look at all the Spec rules again.

It's best we don't make a lot of changes the first couple of years, because we could have been right with the first set of rules. If we do make a lot of early changes, we could be just chasing our own tails.

I'll take their word for, it just surprised me to see that. They've certainly done a lot more testing than I have, that much I know for sure

Now you are learning how to read rules.

It's a tricky science, but one that will come in handy. Exploiting gray-areas in the rulebook is a part of any and every racing series.
