Is there a reason why the NASA events at VIR (Feb 17-19 & July 28-30) were excluded? The only reason I am asking is because VIR is my home track and I was hoping to see some SF in action!

Default Re: Spec Focus Schedules

Midwest Region
April 15th-16th Blackhawk Farms Raceway - Car won't be ready yet
May 20th-21st Putnam Park (Crossover with NASA OH/IN) - Ditto
June 17th-18th Mid America Motorsports - Too far away
July 22nd-23rd Autobahn (Crossover with NASA OH/IN) - Week before MC's RA date
Aug 12th-13th Mid-Ohio (Crossover with NASA OH/IN) - Plan to attend
Sept 11th-17th National Championships—Mid-Ohio - Won't qualify
Oct 21st-22nd Road America - Same date as MC's Looong Race@BHF

Looks like I will only be able to attend the one race this year. The race dates are either too close, or directly conflict with MC's race schedule. Besides, not much left in the budget to put together a 10 race season with the cost of building the car. This year will be a "shakedown" year (4 races and 1 school), while I save for a full MC/NASA season next year (~10 races).

A typical weekend at NASA SoCal would be like this

For the Race Groups (there can be up to 4 separate race groups)
1 x 30 min Practice Session
1 x 30 min Qualifying Session
1 x 30 min Sprint Race
Each day (Sat/Sun) counts as separate races.

HPDE Groups
4 x 20 min Session (Sometimes 5 x 20min)
Followed by an instructional download session
Each day

Time Trial Group
4 x 20 min Timed Sessions
1 x 20 min Shoot-out
Each day (Sat/Sun) counts as separate TT Events.

Sometime during the race weekend, there will be 3 hour endures on Saturday nights.

Once the schedule is posted for Willow Springs, I’ll post it on here to give you a typical schedule

Here's a Typical Light weekend at Willow Springs. Since this is a Non-Points events, it should be light.

Nice schedule. Looks like quite a few opportunities for the Focuses to get out there and mix it up!

What? No Miller Motorsports Park in May?

You can't miss this one! There isn't another 4.5 mile long F1 quality track in the US.

I would love to race at Miller Park. If I have the funds, then I'll go.

Yes, and it FREE!!!!!!

People will be allowed to watch the event from the Top Infield Suites, or any location in the infield sections. The Main Grandstands will not be open for viewing.

Right now we're trying to get two Spec Focus ready for the event. I will know more next week if we have two. If it's only I that will be running, I will run on Saturday in Spec Focus to get some points, and run PTD on Sunday.

Just FYI:

We are currently adding these dates to the FJ Calendar (link at the top of the page).

When they are near they will also pop up at the bottom of the main index page as a reminder.

Great, Thanks Ron.

Just to let everyone know not all NASA track events are free, Some tracks do have a fee to enter the track area, normally it's around $10.00

Hi All,

Did SCCA or MC add the focus to ITA??? I didn't see it in the GCR. I wanted to see what specs they decided on driving out what parts I can get and still be Legal for ITA. I will be running DM in MC this year. The SF looks like it would barely be DM legal for time attack.

Default Re: Spec Focus Schedules

Right now tophe7d is making a car that will be Spec Focus and ITA ready as well. But, he’s had to take something away from a Fully prep Spec Focus or a Fully prep ITA car. I do know the weights are about the same in both cars, but in IT you can't use 17" wheels like we can in SF. I have also learned that we can do more engine mods in SF that IT cannot.

Now, I’ll be the first to tell you, I have no idea what SCCA does in it’s IT classes, but I am learning. But, I'm sure someone in here can explain the IT rules better then I can.

Here’s IT link and yes the 2000-01 Ford Focus can run in ITA http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/GCR2006.pdf

I believe that the SF will have more HP then an ITA car, but the ITA will have a better suspension and brakes. Also in Theory a SF should cost less.

Thanks for the info.

I have been looking at the IT and SF specs. Looks like a car that can do IT and SF will give you mondo track time and I think the more conservative preped ones will to well. (No cams or SVT breaks) Most of the Spec miata's have about the same prep as a SF and run at the front at most of the IT events. Hopefully we see as many in SF as SM.
