Thumbs up Quick Track Report at Willow Springs

I thought I would give everyone a quick track report. Once I get the official reports I’ll be able to give a better detail of the event.

We had minor gremlins on Saturday with our Throttle cable and a electrical switch, once we got that fixed we things worked great.

The car handle great, and had a lot of power. With limited practice and no qualifying session on Saturday, I was able to do a 1:41.1 in the race.

Sunday was much better, With the gremlins fixed I qualified at 1:40.49 after a few laps saving the car for the race. During the race the car worked great even in the 105 temps. I
was still able to have a time of 1:39.9 (can't comfirm that because time and scoring got screwed up with our Red Flag we had.) and was able to beat all the Spec Miatas and 1/2 the SER cup cars. The car worked like a Spec Focus should. It handle great, I could put the car anywhere on the track I wanted to. I talked to a couple SER Cup drivers and they were very surprise how much power the Spec Focus had.

We also took a first time Focus driver and he we both ran within a .3 10ths of a second within one another the whole weekend. His best time was a 1:40.10 and finished 1st in TTE on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday.

I think the good thing about the weekend was how many NASA drivers are now going to build Spec Focus for 2007. We have one guy who builds/races/rents Factory Five Race cars and he’s going to have 3 built by 2007, one for himself and two for rentals. We also have two others one whole races in American Iron who’s going to sell his Mustang and race a FWD car, and would rather build a Spec Focus then FWD from Japan. We also have a Spec Miata Racer whole also wants to build a Spec Focus and sell the SM. I guess he didn’t like me passing him all the time in a SF.

So, things are looking real good for the Spec Focus in SoCal, and the Midwest also sounds like they are moving forward as well.

We were able to impress some H4 and SER cars out their in a little Spec Focus. Since the last time they saw the car, we added FRPP head and stage 3 cams, and SVT brakes.

Good to see this is catching on. I was considering a Miata as my next cheap project car to work towards SM, but now with Spec Focus moving forward and how inexpensive a ZX3 can be purchased at auction...I think I may go with a Focus. Planning on purchasing a 00-01 ZX3 in 6-8 months (have to wait until AFTER the wedding...hopefully the wedding gifts will be generous ), and I'm hoping to have the car slowly prepped for Spec Focus within a year after purchase.

Good to here

All of a sudden there's a lot of SF cars being built for 2007.... mainly by racers that raced in others series like SM. Which will really help the Focus Community.
