Default Spec Focus at Willow

My race weekend went great in the SF at Willow Springs. The car ran great. We’re really starting to get a handle on this car.

When we first started this program I was hoping we could get the SF with in a second or two with the SER Cup, Honda Challenge4 cars and being just as fast as a Spec Neon or Mid-Pack with the Spec Miata’s. Well we have exceeded that and now we’re with in a few 10ths of a second of the fastest SER Cup cars and faster then ˝ the H4 cars…plus faster then the Spec Neon and Spec Miatas.

The funny thing is seeing H4 and SER cups drivers with $2000 suspensions, and $2000 brakes asking me how much a Spec Focus Suspension and brakes cost and I tell them they cost less then $1500 for suspension and brakes combined.

Impressive.

I've read bits and pieces on your SF build...I assume you are running the FR head and cams, right?

Yes.

I still have a few more things to do, like change to a high flow fuel pump, change to 30lbs injectors, change to a 70mm TB and remove the muffler.

I also have just a basic tuned, I'll be working on a better tune over the winter.

Are you going to go with the SVT pump or something else? Per the SF rules, the fuel setup seems pretty much unlimited with the non-SVT Zetec...but would converting to a return fuel system be legal?

Curious how your head and cam install went. I've been reading up on the Stage 3 cams on the FR head, but have not found a whole lot of info. Some posts suggested the head needed to be modified to allow clearance for these cams. Was this true with your installation? I couldnt' see why Ford Racing would sell a head and cams that would require additional modification to work together....

No the FR head went in great, just drop it in an go! I know because we installed it. I would say by far one of the nicest heads I have seen. Well worth the money!

I second that. I have installed a few and you DO NOT have to grind or modify the head. Funny thing is that the FR stage 3 cams were sitting here forever and I sold them cheap, now I'm putting a motor together for SF and I need them again!
