Im trying to figure out financially, what its going to take to get into this series...

First, HPDE fees, Ive gotta get my license, but I dunno how much it costs, I dont want to reigster if its going to wind up out of my budget.

Second (it'll be a while), but I want to get into spec focus, if I get my car into shape and have my license, how much does it cost to enter a car for a race?

Lastly, I'm confused by the word "Team" used in the rules, Im assuming it means having a pit crew, etc, but what am I looking at needing in order to run a car in the series?

Financially racing/motorsports is not cheap and can be a shock to some people. I’ll try to give you the best case situation.

To get your Comp License, you’ll spend about a full season doing HPDE and Race School. But, it is advised that you do spend has much time in Open passing events as possible HPDE4/TT. HPDE fees are around $225 for a weekend. This can very from track to track.

Once you car is ready to race, Registration fees for racing is about $75-$100 more then HPDE/TT per weekend.

Now in the rules it’s says teams, because I feel each car equals to one team (Drive/Car). But, it is advice that you have some sort of pit help. Even if it’s someone to help hand you tools and etc. You’ll be surprise how much of rush you can get into at time. Checklists are very important. I see lots of teams out there still not using checklists. I had always used checklists (even in TT) and when I got to Mid-Ohio for Nationals, Leo Capaldi was also using a checklist.

Keep looking at the webpage as well. We’re are designing a basic Spec Focus Season Budget and you’ll be surprise how much you’ll spend. Registration fees is the cheap part about racing.

Dont get me wrong, Im expecting a fairly hefty investment, but I was actually expecting track time and registration to cost more, so I should be able to pull this off. Of course, its going to be about a season/year before Im even able to compete because I have to get my license, and, obviously, a lot can happen between now and then.

I would be very interested in seeing the budget as well. I am considering building a spec focus as well, but I don't want to get it half built and then figure out that I dont have the funds to finish and compete.

I am starting my HPDE this spring so hopefully, if it all works out i will be ready to go by 2008.

it will be a 2003 2.3L Hatchback with everything that you need is in it.....

I am contemplating on picking up a SVT and putting in all the safety equipment. Would that be a cheaper route then buying a used non svt focus and upgrading it within what the rules allow?

"2003 Focus 2.3L Spec Focus for Sale ($9000.00)"
Is this the one you would be selling? I'll definitly stay tuned. I've been trying to figure out which engine (2.0svt vs. 2.3) has an advantage in competition by reading this forum. It also seems like the sedans handle better then the hatches. am I right?

Yes that is the one I am selling. And personally I would take a Duratec over any other car, the torque really helps out...and I think it would be cheaper to buy a car that was already done...
