The dash 'board' is intact or at least thats how I interpreted it.

Hasn't this car raced at nationals with the dash like that?

Looking good Mark....great Job. Not to worry about the dash that is how we made the First Spec Car and it even raced at Nationals last year.

When I was at Nationals last year I thought to myself that Ted's dash was illegal per the rules as written but that it didn't really matter at that point. I'm glad the rule has been clarified. I'll cut my dash now although I would have preferred if the rule was to keep the whole thing just for production looks.

Thumbs down Re: Spec Focus Build 56k no way

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=1]23.2 Gauges may be added, replaced, or removed. They may be installed in the original instrument(s) location using a
mounting plate(s) or any other location using a secure method of attachment. Other than modifications made to mount instruments
and provide for roll cage installation, the remainder of the dash “board” and instrument panel must remain intact.................................why is this dash legal, as the rules of 2007 say this would not be legal, someone needs to firure out where to draw the line on rules and give maybe better descriptions of rules if needed, some are hard to understand and the ccr rules also..... we are in the process of building a spec focus and keep getting different info and rule changes as we go.. what is the deal,,,,,,,let me know final rules and then we'll finish the spec focus build,,,,,thanks jesse

define "dashboard" anyway? Its open to interpretation, and I'd figure that the series director's car would be a pretty good barometer to know what you can and can't do in those gray areas.

tim

My 4 cars will keep the panel as in production. It will not help any to cut other than a few pounds. The point was every racing production class that I have raced or worked on has a panel left to a production intent, even all the pro series SCCA, IMSA,Grand Am. They did it for a reason.

if you look in any service manual from ford,gm,chrysler, toyota, nissan, honda, kia, saturn, subaru, volvo, audi,p orsche, hummer,
and look up dash board removal its gonna show the whole dash
not just the top half of it where you cut it to remove,,CUT HERE TO REMOVE..

although the term dash is considered a instrument panel,it shows the whole instrument panel in the 2003 ford focus workshop manual on page 501-12-2 procedure #13 and #14,,which clearly shows a full "dash",,,,so no there isnt a problem, anyone who hacked their dash needs to get a full dash and fix it to the rules.

I guess if the IP can be unbolted in the areas in question, then it's no different than removing the door panels, etc.

But, if it actually has to be cut away, what stops people from cutting away other parts of the car to shave weight?
