Default shock bushings

I just bought a brand new dynamic kit for the car I am building. I noticed it did not come with rear shock bushings and I would rather not swap over the rubber bushings. I measured up the shock eye and called prothane and energy up and neither carry a bushing of the size. Am I allowed to mold my own poly bushing or machine a bushing out of ptfe or delrin and use a chromo metal sleeve?

Seems like I could but I want to make sure. I just dont like the idea of installing a used rubber bushing from the old svt shocks, seems pointless.

Yes, you can make you're own bushings.

Hmmm, delrin really wont work because of the arc the the trailing arm will make in relationship to the lower control arm, so that would mean the bushing needs to flex 90 deg to the bolt (stud) that fastens the shock to the trailing arm.

Well I will wait to see what you guys are using and I will start on a mold design.

I think you can get some from Energy Suspension. What size are they?

Check your favorite local auto parts store that carries prothane/energy suspensions. I have installed a poly bushing in a shock when the stock bushing was missing. It was too big originally, but with enough bench vise and modification, it fit like a glove. You may find a universal bushing that is close.

I called energy and prothan up and niether carry the correct size. I would rather make one correctly then fugde one to fit.

That's fine. I think that bushing took <$5 and about 30 minutes. Better than stock. Post up some pics and a how to of your solution. I would be interested in what you came up with.

The stock bushing is actually pretty stiff. You will want some articulation in that joint to allow the suspension to travel through its natural arc. Nate

Not yet, we are still thrashing on them to make sure they dont rip like how the VF lower engine mount poly insert does. Also, the pic has a rendering of the bushing I designed, the actual bushing is black with a chromoly sleeve.

I machined a solid insert for the front of it that ataches to the tranny. I am not sure how it will go but I am going to try it. The rear of the mount still has the poly insert and it is holding up fine.
