What do you think I could sell this car for if it were de-tuned to compete in Spec Focus?
$7K in body work and paint, fully gutted and lightened interior, gauges, racing buckets, SVT brakes all around, and I'd put a stock motor in her. Let me know what you think. Just a feeler, if anyone is interested, let's talk. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

"22.7 Fenders and wheel openings must remain unmodified, except that rolling or flattening of inner fender lip for tire clearance
is permitted." That could maybe be a problem, however the wheel wells are not widened, there are only covers over the original wells. Who do I PM about this to find out if this would fly?

A couple of things to think about, and apologies if this is bad news. The car looks fantastic, but...
1) Does it have a legal cage? 2) Are the seats race legal (i.e. 1 piece buckets, not just seats that have guide holes for harnesses 3) Harnesses legal? (3" and not older than 2 years if SFI approved) 4) Assuming it's an SVT, it will need an SVT motor or else swap in an MTX-75 trans 5) Will it have a spec legal suspension? If it had all of the above, I'd ballpark $12-14k. Most of the extra $$ are in body and paint, which while it looks fantastic(!) won't affect performance. To do the work above, you're probably looking at $4-5k in cash unless you can build the cage yourself. Less if you already have a motor, but a prospective buyer is going to have to weigh shelling out extra cash (specifically for the cage) vs. the appearance of the car if you don't already have it installed. Matt

The car looks great!!! But, I really can't tell by just the photo what it has or doesn't have. The body kit would have to be changed. The front bumper looks to have modeled type splitter which is not allowed. The wing and spoiler cannot be used. Even the air scoop on the roof cannot be used. plus you have some kind of a widebody kit and etc.
Then you have everything that Matt wrote in his thread about the safety equipment. The car would be best to use in Performance Touring in it's current config, except you would have to take a lot of unnecessary points for the kit and wings which could cause it to become a very slow PTC car.

Well contrary to the negative everyone sees, digs for, comes up with, I see an awesome car. Nice work. I'm only a little doubtful on putting a stock engine in there but other than that, two thumbs up on the car.......
It would be criminal to remove body pieces/kit etc on that car to make it 'comply' with a particular series......

It would be a travesty to change the body of that car to fit some "spec" class, that is simply amazing. I would just not even think about building it for "Spec Focus" and just sell it for what it is, a replica of a fantastic rally car driven by an amazing duo.
EDIT: I just noticed though, I would immediately change one thing on that car. I'd remove the Nardone name and put Mr. McRae's name where it properly belongs. Its very odd seeing Nicky's name on the window with someone BESIDES Colin.

To clarify - not knocking the car. For good or ill, when you are building a race car (spec, or other class), it is 100% important to know exactly what the car needs to have on it to be compliant with the class you want to run. The cost of buying a car is high enough without going through the additional pain of either having to add a bunch of new parts to make it compliant, or worse, have to spend a bunch of money to take parts off of the car to make it compliant.
So, my previous post is just pointing out to the seller and potential buyers what would need to be done to make it spec compliant. My advice would be to either make it a PT car as Ted notes, or keep it a very nice street car/HPDE car and enjoy it for what it is - which is gorgeous.

ZX3freak - do you do HPDE or are looking to to race? I'm about 90 minutes from you in the Fairfax area, so if you're coming north and want to grab some beers and poke through my spec car, feel free.
Also, we'll be at VIR in Feb. with NASA mid-atlantic. Bring your car out and do an HPDE.

The way it is, for SF:
You'll never get back whatever you have in it. You'd be better off leaving it as-is and selling it.

I want to say that there are finally a few stateside companies who are carrying this now, though it originally came from Europe! That car looks GREAT, and I wish I could snag it, but I need more of a daily driver than a track car for a couple more years...

Thanks for all the comments folks.
Is an Autopower 6 point bolt-in cage legal for Spec Focus?

1) Tubing diameter and wall thickness 2) Method of attachment to the car 3) design of main hoop. Autopower cages on some cars have a diagonal bar that connects from the top of the hoop to the rear downtubes. NASA requires that there be a diagonal from the top of the main hoop (above driver's head) to the base of the main hoop. This is easy enough to add for a few hundred dollars if it doesn't have one. However, they will drill the cage and put a micrometer on it to verify thinkness and diameter. Make sure to double-check the CCR for the rules. Do you have a link to the cage? I'll check it out. Matt

If you purchase that cage from him you REALLY should weld it in and add to it to be safe. After the incident this past year at mid ohio, I would never race with a bolt in cage or a weld in one with out proper door bars.
