Default 2008 NASA Rules - Head and Neck Restraint req'd

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/ccr.pdf

H&N restraint with SFI 38.1 cert required as of June 2, 2008

Specification 38.1 - Head and Neck Restraint Systems

HANS Performance Products - HANS Device (All Series)
Leatt Brace Moto-R Sport Device
Leatt Brace Moto-R Pro Device
LFT Technologies R3 Device
Safety Solutions Hutch-II Device
Safety Solutions Hutchens Hybrid Device
Safety Solutions Hybrid X Device

Not looking to start a debate on which ones better or why some devices aren't included - just being the messenger.

As an FYI (no affiliations, etc) - HANS apparently has a new model that just came out in the last week or so that is around $700 vs. the $900 regular models. Main difference is that the new model is a pound or so heavier and carries an SFI, but not FIA certification. So, to save $200, you're giving up your opportunity to use it in an F1 car.

Good for the neck, but bad for the wallet.

Now I'm just really upset! I was planning on using mine when McLaren uses me for a test driver in Canada this year!

The link in the original post seems to go to a previous version of the CCR. Could someone point me at the new one?

Thanks

The original link was to version 2008.4 - it got switched at NASA over the weekend to the 2007 version that was up on Sunday. Keep checking the link for the next day or so. I will also repost if I see it back to the 2008 version.

Tried an R3 and a HANS today. I like the R3 design (though felt like I was putting on a manssiere), but it felt like I was sitting with a 2x4 between the seatback and myself. Liked the HANS better and am going with the Model 30. HANS is also selling a kit that will allow for more side to side head movement while in the car - the tethers will slide but not change length. Will be adding those to the stocking as well.

I was wondering that with the R3. Drag racers use them a lot.... but they are not in the car very long I'll have to get the HANS

R3 sells a pad about 3/4" thick that can attach to the seat with a cut-out for the back of the H&N. From the look of it, it's designed for aluminum seats like Butler/Kirkey. If you have Sparco or Recaro or similar seats covered in Nomex, it didn't look like it would work either over or underneath.

Also - it's an extra $100 on top of the extra $100 for the R3

BTW - one of the NASA national championship sponsors is offering 10% off HANS, but I'm not sure if I can mention them under the Focaljet Terms of Service - Guidance needed.

The Mandatory date has been change from June 2, 2008 to July 2, 2008

Use of a head and neck restraint system or device, carrying an SFI 38.1 certification, is mandatory for all drivers as of July 2, 2008. References and information can be found in “Appendix D,” section #29.0 of the CCR

I don't know... this isn't the first time it's been change. I wouldn't be surprise if it changes again.

e-mail I received today from Mid Atlantic region quoted that there was a backlog in some of the devices, thus a delay.
