Default Cluth Options

Hello Everyone,

Just trying to get a read on what clutch people are running on their spec cars. Does the stock Zetec clutch have the guts to match up with the extra power? How about the center force one that Ford Racing sells?

Thanks,
Andrew

Where is this "extra power" you're speaking of?

I believe all of LC Racing cars have Centerforce Clutch. I think every SF car running so far has an aftermarket clutch…… I don’t think you could go wrong with Centerforce, ACT or Exedy. Exedy does have contingency for us.

I think he means the 40-50whp gain from stock power.

Sure... but stock clutches hold up to adding much more than that. My stock clutch held up to 40,000 miles of 200whp supercharging.

Granted, I didn't really race on it that much...... But at this time, I don't see a need for an aftermarket clutch with only ~160whp.

Thanks for the information. I may still stick it out with my stocker until I actually buy some parts that make the "extra power" available in the spec focus rules. Good to know that centerforce is a good option.

The stock clutch failed on my 2.3 motor 10 track days. The friction material failed - there was lots left, but it de-bonded from the backing plates. Installed a Spec-brand clutch and have been exceptionally pleased with it.

That's about 1/3 season as far as SF events go.

Yeah, that's 10 track days... which is only 5 weekends. But that depends on what region you're in. Some regions (like Great Lakes) only have 7 weekends (14 Track Days). In SoCal and NorCal we have 10 weekends (20 track days).

actually, i installed a new stock ford clutch over the winter to replace my original clutch. i wanted to install a centerforce but they are not making it for the SVT anymore. i had to replace the flywheel also since ford redesigned the pressure plate per a TSB. so i couldn't install a new clutch and pressure plate on the old flywheel. the new and old flywheels are definitely different. hopefully i'll get more than 10 track days on the clutch.
