No there is only one....remember that is the one that John Lindsey had us change way back in the beginning because he wanted a main hoop on the cage. So then I changed it and he said perfect!

Is the diagonal bar in the main hoop one piece or two?

From the rule it should be one piece. that is the correct way. ON the CRR they have diagrams. One piece is Correct. Split but along a line is acceptable. Anything beside this (like an angle change on the second half or simply not in line is not accepted)

You're right Hector, it falls under acceptable category. Just have Leo check the whole car, he's one of the Tech Inspectors for the Midwest/Great Lakes Area.

Comment from the peanut gallery: I really like the accelerator pedal extension. Bet that makes the HT reach easier (it's a little harder for me now with the 6-point harness setup). I've got an OMP off-the-shelf piece that is not bad, but I've always envied the BMW guys with the pedal that extends up from the floor. Those seem much more practical for HT...at least to me.

I might be going to Capaldi this weekend but I do know the car is not fully legal yet... need new Springs right hand net and the right tires. I want him to check the essentials beside these 3 things and maybe give me some tips!!

Hector,
One thing you will have to change is the doors. Gutting the doors are not allowed in Spec Focus. Gutting the door on the driver side to make room for door bars are fine... but the other door cannot. So, you should only have to replace one door.

If you're taking the car to Capaldi's this week, have them give it the once over and come out to Mid-Ohio next week and do the HPDE :-)

I would suggest looking at revising this rule. The car has a passenger seat, and I feel it should be allowed that both doors can be clearanced for door bars. I would assume the basis for the rule would be for weight, but all cars have a minimum weight and this would not significantly affect CoG.

My read was that you can cut what's necessary from the door to accomodate door bars. I think this winter I'll add nascar bars to the right side as well.

Badidea,
I believe you are correct, on the other hand, by the time you add the extra weight of "nascar bars" to the passenger side its pretty close to a wash when it comes to weight removed from the door. Now, if someone plans to have a passenger ride along alot, the extra room to weight issue makes more sense. As for revising the rule set, it seems pretty clear that the door may be clearenced if the cage protrudes into the stock door area. Its hard to tell by the photos, but Hectors door bar seems to run flush between the "a" and "b" pillars (correct me if I'm incorrect Hector) reguardless if theres a passenger seat in the car or not. All silly little issues aside, Hector when are we going to see you at the track with us! Oh, and I noticed you asked if Leo can issue log books which he can, but wasn't your car already run in NASA? If so it should already have the cage stamped and a log book issued.

Well yes this car was checked over by the west region and John Lindsey and Ryan personally along with our Spec Focus Director and the issues they had were already fixed. Ted had a log book already for this car but not sure where it is at this point.

Well if Ricardo have a log book then that would make things easier. STill need to work some small details.
On the Door subject. The passenger area does the exact same thing you see on the driver side. The cage barely touches the outside skin of the door. In my opinion it looks stronger, stiffer and safer than either just a bar runing completely outside the door. BTW thanks for all the comments and HELP!!! |

Hector...Ted had the log book not me....so you will have to ask him about it....
Of course the cage is stronger the way it is...we built it for safety. I remember the tech chief when he looked at it was like you guys went well beyond what we require. So yes I believe it is stronger and safer....
