I'm getting ready to do my first lapping day w/ my 03 svt. I was looking at a thread w/ a broken rod(ouch !). I'll be on r-dot rubber w/the stock alignment.Do I need to worry/slow down or just make sure my oil is full?.....thanks, mike.

Nope - zero oil issues on the svt. Power steering and front hubs are a different story.

Alot of that depends on the Suspension, Tire size, type of tires, and wheel weight. If you have a very stiff suspension with high grip Hoosier Race tires that are on 225 tire width... the front hub will not last as long as a track car with shofter suspension with 205 width, High Performance Street tires. Our Spec Cars seem to have less issues with hubs then other track Foci.

A couple notes on the oiling issue. I ran into this problem last weekend at Mid-Ohio. It appears that the SVT engine is very sensitive to changes in internal pressure so having a good overflow tank (with a breather) is very good idea, also make sure that the dipstick is secured in the tube and the 0-ring is present on the stick (use a zip tie to secure it in the tube if necessary). If you watch these you shouldn't have any issues.
Have fun!!! |

First use a synthetic engine oil
consider same for power steering, You may leave the level of the engine oil a little low, half way between full and add, this avoids any whiping of oiil by the crank/rods. Not a requirement however, Wheel bearings go because folks overheat the hubs, grease melts, byby bearing. Thus, cooling duct work to brakes is highly desirable. Remove fog lights, duct to about 10 inches from rotor. closer will find the wheel hiting the ducting. See other threads for various duct ideas etc. You will be most happy if you get a dedicated set of rotors and high performance pads beded to those rotors. Not required, but makes for great brakes, and your street set up is preserved. Don't put Carbotec pads on a used rotor, the material will NOT transfer evenly and you will have high speed chatter from H#$%. Have fun PS a missed shift, like 3 to 2 rather than 4 will make all bets off. DON"T do it. Bad Stuff happens

No. For the svt's (and i assume all the others) you need full synthetic like a mobil 1 and breather. I actually have a steeda elbow so I send it right back to the intake but it is AFTER the mass air sensor. Stock and alot of other intakes send it back before the mass air sensor.

The Accusump is a secondary/ external oil accumalator...if the oil pan runs dry thus droping ebgine oil pressure, the "Accusump" (brand name of a common device) tank of 1-3 Qts of oIl are forced back into the oiling systems,,,,thus preventing a "dry engine"

Again, no one has an accusump and I don't see a need for it. But thanks for explaining what one is.

I used one in the omni...even if you never have any oiling issues you can use it to pre oil the engine before you start it( priceless )
