Default Zetec power question

Anyone have any idea how much power I am missing by not having the FRPP Head and Stage 3 cams? I wonder if it is cheaper to sell my bolt on's and try to find a stock 2.3 Duratec + ECU.

I don't know if the the tranny and axles and whatnot are the same or not. I assume they are since they were both in the 2003 + 2004 cars.

tranny, the guts are, but the bell housing is different. Axles, thats a good question.... as Ford has recently updated the parts.... a 2.3 Swap is not an easy task.... be prepared for a wiring harness nightmare. If you find a wreck, it'd be cheaper, most definately... but the hastle is large.

How much power are you missing? A lot. Probably 15-20 depending on how you tune.

You're missing alot... Maybe as much as 40 to 50whp. You're better off getting FRPP head and Stage 3 cams and Intake Manifold then changing the engine to a 2.3L and then nightmare of making it work. A Zetec should get around 165-170whp.

Are you having a hard time getting 160 to 165 out of your SVT motor?

Well, I've never had it on a dyno, but stock it should be 140 or so. I wouldn't think an exhaust and tune would get me up there.

Dunno if this is spec legal but,

zx3 head gasket for upped compression
adjustable exhaust cam (w/tune)
ORP
2.5" exhaust
high flow filter
port work on the exhaust side... idk how much else it would take.

Stock is like ~152, from what I remember seeing @ Dyno Days...

Technically, the gasket to increase compression is not legal. Rules specify that the compression may not exceed a certain point to allow for cleaning up the head.

You should have around 150whp. Then if you add CAI, Headers, Remove the Cat, Exhaust, Remove the A/C, change underpully, and Tune... You should be over 160whp.

How about the cams in a stock head? Will that give me most of the power I am missing?

You are gonna have to get every allowable mod, a solid/agressive tune, and the allowed 1/2 point compression bump to get near the power you need. Even after that you will still be way down on torque to the 2.3 cars.

I'd rather race slow than sit fast. Right now I am on track with vettes and porsches.

Jimmy
come out and race with us, work on the power issues as you can. License is available at Mid Ohio next week on Friday before the races Sat and Sun, just pay the money to MO School.

You have to have a physical, pay $60, pass the open book test on the CCR, and submit a resume of your HPDE 4 /TT experience to Dave Royce. Then hit the track!!

If you car is safe, you can race SF. Unless of course you have illegal mods, and then we will just disqualify you when you win.

We'll see what I'm going to do. I'm trying to get an estimate for bringing my Focus up to Spec.

Just a thought, you might want to give Craig at Capaldi racing a call or PM him on the message board. He would probably be able to give you a pretty good estimate on what it would take to get your car track ready.

I've tried that route.
