While washing my car last weekend, I noticed something that really disappointed me - RUST. On my hatch, right where the rear glass meets the metal along the lower edge and makes a 90 degree angle, the paint/seam sealant has developed tiny cracks, and I've got a BB sized rust spot on one side. I'm going to clean it down to bare metal, treat it with a spot of rust converter, and touch it up, but it doesn't bode well. BTW I live in S. TX - no snow or salt down here! You might want to check your hatch out for a similar problem...

I would take it back to the Dealer. Let their body shop take care of it.
If not, use a bit of clear nail polish to cover the spot. The problem with nail polish, it does not hold up to UV rays like touch up paint. The problem with touch up paint, it's hard to make it look good. Maybe this is the reason FORD gave us free touch up paint; they knew they had spots like this. Good luck and thanks for letting us know. |

The dealer? Horrors! I treated the rust spot with Extend, then touched it up using Ford touchup paint - which was not free. In my case, you can't see the repair - just hope it doesn't spread

Silver-bullet - I think the touch up paint was free when you filled out some survey or something.
Anyway, don't stress. You live in TX, it's not like you live in MN or MI where rust is just bad news and part of the deal. People at the Gulf, or in my case coast, have more to deal with regarding rust then you or I. Most likely it was a spot of exposed metal and it started to oxidize on its way to rust (kind of like your breaks do when you wash your car). Touch it up and you'll be fine. |
