Default Stalling

My se has started to stall going around corners when you have to slow down quickly like coming off a ramp on the freeway. First the gas pedal did not respond now it stalls. It will restart immediately but off ramps are not the place to stall. Dealer took car for two days of testing and could not duplicate condition. I have noticed it only happens when fuel tank level is one quarter or below. I have had too many recalls already with this early 2000 model

If this happens only when your fuel level is low, I'd suspect the pickup tube in the fuel tank is sucking air when the fuel gets forced away from the tube during a long curve (such as an off ramp). See if you can duplicate this problem with a nearly empty tank while circling in a large, empty, obstacle-free parking lot. If this is the problem, Ford will have to come up with a design fix, or you'll have to remember to keep your tank above 1/2...

Many thanks for your advice; it sounds like the solution. I'll bring your note to the dealer since the car is going in for a second attempt at a fix. The third time invokes the Lemon Law in New York.

I had the same problem, it started at about 30,000 miles. It got worse and last week I had the fuel pump replaced. It fixes the problem for now. The best advice I can give is to keep the tank over 1/2 full as much as possible. Also, you may not notice a problem other than the stalling on curves until the weather gets warm. Then it may refuse to run altogether as mine did requiring the replacement of the fuel pump.
