Default Ignition Switch Woes?

Sorry if this is a duplicate - how many people have had problems with your ignition switch getting stuck, failing to accept or release the key, or causing the "key in ignition" chime to stay on after you pull the key out?

Boom! just had that problem fixed on my 2000 ZTS. the center circle part won't always pop all the way out when the key was removed. So you get the chime because the car thinks the key's still there. I had them replace the ignition switch. They replaced it with a shiney cheaper looking unit. It's taking a little bit to wear in too. But it's getting easier to put the key in now. Have them replace it. I wonder how many other Foci have this problem.

PS are you the same silver bullet as over on edmunds townhall site?

Thanks for your post - that's my problem in a nutshell. The rotating section of the ignition switch doesn't pop up enough to kill the chime. Terrific - another reason to go read stale magazines at my dealer

Yes - I'm the same Silver Bullet who's been hanging around Edmund's Town Hall for a good while.

mine was just towed yesterday too. the weird part was that the tow truck driver said this was the 6th or 7th focus he'd towed this week because of the ignition!

Mine has never gotten stuck, but sometimes it doesn't pop up like it should when I remove the key. So I tap it and it pops up and kills off that annoying chime lol.
