Default Yes we have no ABS for \'01

Just to let you good people know -

I ordered the "Fully Loaded" version of the 01 Wagon SE in Sep 2000. I wanted EVERY option! Side Air Bags, ABS, every thing that was listed in the 2001 Focus / Mustang / ZX2 brochure. (all three options...)

The Sales Rep set up the order and we even got confirmation on the order listing every thing - including ABS.

It was not until Nov 22 when I picked up the car did we find out ABS was not offered in 01. (other then the ZTS)

I'm not upset with the Sales Rep, he was never told. I'm not upset with FORD for deciding not to offer ABS. I'm upset that NO ONE TOLD ME. Is this any way to start a relationship?

I have sent this information on to FORD Cust Service and to the Owner's group on-line; no word back though. The Best part - The VIN shows up as having ABS lowering my insurance!!! I'll keep you updated.

Someone lied to you.

Or your salesman is ignorant.

Or someone f@#ked up your order at some point along the line.

All '01 models are most definitley available with ABS as an option.

I would raise hell...

I think your dealer screwed up. You should demand the car you ordered and shouldn't have accepted delivery in the first place. I wouldn't even accept an ABS retrofit. I would demand a new car or a serious discount. That's total BS.

i am in agreeance with everyone else. your dealer is clueless, or remembered after the fact oh yeah they wanted ABS so how about we just tell them it was not an option in '01. For reference it is option order code #552.

i would go back to the dealer and have them re-order or find a new one, or give a nice discount on yours...

WOW! - Thanks for the Support!!

Where can I get PROOF that ABS is installed on '01 cars? Can someone send me a copy of his or her window sticker? At this point I am waiting to hear back from FORD Cust Service. And waiting... and waiting...

I had mentioned the Sales Rep and I filled out the order form for the car listing ABS as an option using the order code; the car just showed up without ABS. At that time the Sales Rep confirmed (somehow) that ABS is not offered on '01 Focus (except ZTS).

I will be more then happy to pitch my bitch when I get the information I need. At this point, I am giving FORD Cust Service a few days to respond.

Please keep in mind, I did NOT pay for the ABS option. And the extra $800 I was expecting to pay for ABS, will come in handy for Go Fast Goodies. On the optimistic side, the disc break conversions will be a lot easier with out the concern for ABS.

BTW - Westlake Village is located in Ventura County. That is South of Santa Barbara (1hr), East of Malibu (15min), and Northwest of Hollywood (1hr).

The dealer is BSing you if he says the Wagon doesn't come with ABS. The price of $800 you mentioned is incorrect also. ABS is a $400 option. Go to www.ford.com and build a wagon. You will see ABS is available and what it costs.

Yes, ABS is listed On-Line, in the Focus brochure, and has an order code. But there is fine print at the bottom of the page that says these options might not be built. I need to see a window sticker from someone that has ABS on an '01 (not a ZTS). That is my best defense.

$400 or $800 either way, I did not pay for the option = More Go Fast Goodies!

I'm trying to keep my sprits up and hope for the best. I believe FORD will lend an explanation. I hope.

The plot thickens.

Here is the official response from FORD:

"We can confirm for you that the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) was offered as an available option for your 2001 Ford Focus Wagon SE."

The preverbal caca will now hit the fan.

Stay tuned-

OK, this is getting out of control. Here is what FORD had to say after looking in to it a bit further:

"We have contacted {the Dealer}and spoke with the Sales Manager. He said that he researched this issue and it was discovered that this option was not available at the time your particular vehicle was manufactured. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact him directly.

We thank you for taking the time to let us know about your frustration with the situation surrounding this option not being included on your vehicle. Feedback from customers like you enable us to look into areas where improvements may be needed so that we are better able to satisfy our customers in the future. We appreciate your concerns and have documented them for future reference.

We would like to congratulate you on your recent purchased. we value your business and therefore would like to apologize for any frustration you may have experienced as a result of this situation."

So I called the Sales Mgr. and his response was:
"FORD must have run out of ABS when they built you car. What can you do?"

Is this guy on CRACK?!? Run out of ABS... They might run out of Floor Mats but not ABS!

Now, I'm upset! I have asked for the Dealer internal documentation for ordering my car. This guy is not going to pass off his mistake on to FORD with out proof.

Stay tuned-
(I just realized that has a double meaning for us car people.)

Well, here is the latest. The Dealer admitted to incorrectly ordering my wagon. (This after WEEKS of pulling teeth and asking for proof!)

Were does that leave me? I don't know. I have asked for a new car; the car I ordered. I am not holding out much hope for that. I am willing to keep the car because, I Love this car. But they will have to do something for me. For God's sake, they lied to my face and someone will be on the hook for this. They were offering Free service and the ability to get credit for ABS when I trade in the car. But what will that get me? I have already purchased the best Extended Service plan I could. And with my record of owning cars, it will be 10 to 15 years before I trade the car in.

I did ask the Dealer to implement an Order Verification Procedure. That way when the Dealer orders the car for the customer, the order can be faxed or sent to the customer to "Sign Off" that the order is correct. If it is not, the Dealer has time to fix the order BEFORE the car is built.

Stay Tuned-

If I were you (which I am not), I would let sleeping dogs lie and accept the fact that you don't have abs. It's a shame and I am with you 100%, but it is time to just relax and not let yourself get pulled into it any further.

Please note: You should have checked over the car and ensured all options were in place prior to signing on the bottom line when you received the car. I personally, had an opportunity to look over my car prior to the final purchase and made sure I had all options.

Buyer Beware.

You still have a very nice car. Enjoy it.

You paid for the ABS didn't you? YOU SHOULD GET ABS!!! I just finished looking over the 2001 sheet that Ford sent me, and it says that ABS is optional on every Focus. Even the LX sedan.

cant ABS be installed on the car now? If not I would tell them I'd like a new vehicle. It really burns me up that they sat there and LIED to your face! they won't lose anything on your vehicle. selling it as used ... they lose initially on the sticker but get it back via financing rates. you really should get what you want. ABS is one safety feature i will not drive without. I highly recommend ABS. raise some hell in a diplomatic fashion.

I don't think that ABS can be installed at the dealership.. but if they shipped it back to the factory, they probably could do it there.

You people are not going to believe this...

Long story short - I'm getting a new wagon!!

Story - After I looked thorough the documentation of the order form for my Wagon (A), I compared it to the order form of Wagon (B). I found the orders to be the same?!? - (Not to mention that I got both order printouts the same day after WEEKS of asking.)

I called the General Sales Manager and asked what happened - the orders are the same and the first one has ABS listed? He commented that FORD builds cars incorrectly sometimes. It is less expensive for the assembly line to install the wrong part when compared to stopping the line to get the correct part - If the assembly person even sees that the part is wrong.

If the car is built incorrectly, it is up to the Dealer to catch it and ask the Buyer if they still want the car. Sometimes it is an option that the Dealer can order and replace. This was not the situation for me. I have yet to find a person that feels the Dealer can/should install an ABS system.

I asked him why they would take the blame for FORD building the car wrong. He really did not have an answer. He just kept saying they blew it and should have informed me correctly what my options were. If they had done that, I would have refused the car and FORD would have taken the car back at no expense to the dealer. FORD could have also sold the car as new because it would not have been Registered anywhere. Now, the Dealer is taking a used car back and GIVING me a new one with ABS.

If you are looking for a "Loaded" Wagon with a 5 speed trans, low mileage, and NO ABS, I know where you can get a good price on one.
