Default Cheap gas tank door

Has anyone else had problems with the door over the gas tank on the SE? I barely brushed against mine while refueling the other day and it broke off! My car is less than six months old! Grrr!

Mine got stolen! I have no idea what somebody would do with a used, broken fuel door, but hey, for $17.00 I'm not to worried about it happening again!

Chrobo42, this part should be covered under you warranty, especially with it being almost new. I'd just go in to your dealership and tell them what you told us. They should have the part in stock, and shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes if they are not buisy.

I have to say, it is still a pain in the @$$ to have to go in to get a part fixed

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I love my Focus except for this problem. Obviously there is a design flaw in the gas tank door.

I had a problem with mine...I slammed into a gaurd rail at 40mph and it snapped clean off and flew into the creek below....maybe I was a "bit" harder on it than Ford intended...not sure....

LOL! I would think that hitting a guard rail at 40 mph might qualify as being "harder on it than Ford intended"! I barely bumped mine, however. I went to the dealer yesterday and they tried to tell me that the warrenty wouldn't cover it. When I said that I would talk to my salesperson and then raise a stink, they suddenly discovered that the warrenty would cover it! Amazing what a little persistence can do!

After looking closely at the hinge that snapped off, I see that it is made out of plastic or fiberglass - not metal.
