Default Recall #00T04 PCM Engine management

There seems to be another recall (at least here in Canada) called #00T04. Something to do with low temperatures and the PCM.

I thought I would summarize the problems I have had with my 2000 Focus (16,000km, 1 year old). Sad to say, but I will probably be selling my car in another two years. I can't imagine what else might go wrong when it has aged a bit:

1. Metal on metal grinding sound from the rear wheels. Very worrisome[Not Fixed Yet]
2. Warped front disks. [Not Fixed Yet]
3. Broken oil cap. The technician busted it the last time I had the oil changed. [Not Fixed Yet]
4. Service #00B59. Clutch master cylinder and return spring replacement. [Not Fixed Yet]
5. Front suspension creak. [Not Fixed Yet]
6. Upper body cladding is bending/warping outwards near the door handle. [Not Fixed Yet]
7. Recall #00T04 PCM Engine management recal [Not Fixed Yet]
8. Rear seat recall #00S55.
9. Clutch spring broke after 2 months.
10. Rear wheel recall #00B59.
11. Trim piece recall #00S20. [Not Fixed Yet]
12. Sqeaking rear brakes needed lubrication on the backing plates.
13. Broken shifter boot.
14. Mis-aligned drivers side door.
15. Cracked rocker moulding. [Not Fixed]

I noticed you mentioned a misaligned driver side door. I wonder what exactly you were talking about.
My door wasn't (still) fitting properly in the A-pillar area. It seems that the door's dimensions are incorrect. Weird.

The door was aligned in such a way that the top corner, furthest away from the hinge was too high. Basically, when the door was closed, it would slam against the frame, leaving marks in the paint.

That reminds me, I have to add a little touch up paint to that spot.

the metal on metal grinding sound is most likely the rear bearings failing.. i had the same problems.. took it back, they ordered the parts and told me not to drive it to much.. so i didn't then waited about a week for the parts to arrive.. went back and found out the parts were wrong ones, i guess ford is manufacturing new bearings to replace the old ones. i have had my rental car for 2 weeks now.. i call every other day to see if the parts are in yet

Lucky you, I a pretty sure that they will not give me a rental.

I am also pretty sure that Ford will not pay for my warped rotors since my car is one year old and ten days.

Is there a document somewhere stating what is only covered for one year??

tomp,

Rusting? Recall 00T04 pertains to reprogramming the PCM to help prevent rough running/stalling when slowing to a stop when the temperature is below -23* C.

Thanks, 99 ZX2 Sport:

I've corrected my post... the Ford CRC representative mentioned the word rusting when she mentioned the recall... I think...My mistake, anyway.

I also have a misaligned driver's door. The door protrudes slightly more on the lower half than on the top half. As result, the rubber seal is all cut on the top and the paint is scraped off on the inside. Which means that the door makes metal contact with the frame. I've had this since day one but I really didn't care too much because you can hardly tell there is a problem from the outside. Also, it must be a b*tch to try and fix that. It must be a problem on how the hinges are aligned. Since I don't trust my ford dealers I haven't even mentioned it to them. I really think they would probably make teh problem worse. I just wish I had inspected the car more thouroughly before I signed the paper and took delivery. oh well

Got a call from my Service Manager. She told me that the Ford technician was having trouble reprogramming the PCM computer - he's spent a fair amount of time on the phone with Ford trying to get it done. Makes me think that my car was the first to be recalled (at that particular dealership).

I told them not to bother, I want my car back tonight... my brakes and rear wheel noise have been fixed, so I'm reasonably happy. I just hope that the PCM isn't messed up when I pick up my car (!).

They also haven't fixed the front suspension creak... maybe next time, I suppose.

Almost forgot:

The Service Manager told me the warped rotors have been repaired under waranty. I Just hope they don't change my mind when I arrive. Not sure if the pads were replaced either.

As for the rear wheel noise, it was the bearings. I think they replaced the right (or was it left?) wheel bearings and hub assembly.

I have an 02 ZTS and when it is cold outside the engine dies after about 20 seconds. If I keep restarting the engine till the temp gauge reads a quarter to half way up (about 40 or 50 starts depending on temp) it runs ok. might this be related?
