Just ordered my new 5S4Z-11582-BB LOCK ASSEMBLY - STEERING from Steve at Tousley Ford(FJ Sponser). Came to under $50 shipped. I figure from what other people have been saying it won't cost me too much to have it key'ed, then I'll hopefully swap it out myself and be done with this problem. It's retarded Ford won't offer a recall on this.

figured out a temporary solution , take the key and slam it into the ignition and turn it real fast, this is how i got mine to work, i have only had the car a week now and it is quite frustrating.

Add me to the list...knowck on wood, after having it replaced 2 times I havnt had to have it done again. Ford kind of screwed me too, I was about 3 weeks past my 1 year...and they wouldnt hook me up. I actually had to have my car towed one of the times. The previously mentioned SLAMMING THE KEY IN, QUICK TURN METHOD...that only worked about 3 times

Hey all, I have a 2002 Focus and the ignition system locked up on me. I have 73,000 miles and the key wouldn't turn anymore. I spent about $300.00 and had the dealership put in a new one. Exactly five weeks later, it locked again. I'm waiting to see what the dealership is willing to do about this problem, but more so, what Ford is going to do about this problem.

On my way out the door to get the 3RD broken ignition switch as well as the 4th CD player replaced on my brother's '03. Strange that it has never happened on my SVT yet.

Mine just did it today. I did the same thing as MattZTS. If I jerk the wheel and jiggle the key, it goes in. Ford better damn well cover this under warranty.

Mine just locked three days ago, only costed $50 for a new different style lock from the local locksmith, this is rediculous we should all be getting compensated for this recall issue. I am keeping my receipts and am trying to get the money from Ford...we'll see I don't expect anything like the last three problems that I complained to Ford about.

HOLY COW! Mine just locked!!! My Dad was driving my '01 zx3 when it happened. Good thing he was over at my brother's place, and not somewhere far.
It's at the dealership right now getting fixed (I hope). I got the extended warranty and hopefully it'll cover it, or at least some of it. SO, YES, PLEASE ADD ME TO THE LIST!!!!!!!! |

My wife's 01 focus has had the ignition replace twice. once under warrenty about 2 years ago then just recently for 250.00 out of my pocket. I complained about this and they said replacements are only warrentied for 1 year. This car has had some unusual problems. Throttle cable snapped. now the egr pipe that goes to the exhaust manifold is cracked at the flange.

Mine screwed itself up this way after work last Friday. Bad start to a weekend, especially after a week when I found out I need a new fuel pump and alternator. GRRRR! I plan on printing out all these comments, as well as the hundreds of others at other websites and demanding the Ford dealer fixes this for free. Won't work, but I'll feel marginally better.

Mine locked on my once (2001 ZX3) - called Ford Roadside, truck driver came, put the key in as far as it would go - hit it with his palm - and got the car started.
This was about 6 months ago, haven't had a problem with it since, but feel free to add me to the list, cause I'm sure its gonna break very soon. |

my ignition locked up on me about 2.5 years ago. It turned out to be the tumbler so I changed it myself and put the code sequence under the dash so if it happened again, i could just change it out. No problems since.
