Happened to me right before my wedding. My car had less than 27,000 miles on it
and 3 months outside my warranty. I lost half a day getting it towed and fixed for about $400. So go ahead and add me to your list! Let us know the results of your lawsuit. |

My ignition lock jammed up without warning on Friday. I had a locksmith look at it and was told it had to be replaced. He said he'd replace the lock for $100 in my driveway if I bought the lock. I called four Ford dealers and was given $80.51 as the cost for a replacement lock by all four. I asked their service departments to quote parts and labor and was given prices ranging from $150-200. I decided to have the car towed to the nearest dealer who quoted $150-160 for parts and labor. The service department is open till midnite, so I assumed the car would be done the same day. When I arrived at the dealer's lot we were written up and told they'd call in an hour or so after examining the problem. I received a call at 3:00 and was told the car would be ready at 5:30 and the cost was $219 plus tax. I asked if Ford would share the cost because I'm six months over the warranty with 32,000 miles. I received a negative answer.I told them to replace the lock, and I'd take the matter up with FORD. At 5:00 I received a second call telling me the car would not be done till Monday. They had to remove the jammed up steering column. They did not offer a loaner car until after we argued and I asked to speak to the Service Manager. I have been driving since 1950 and have NEVER had an ignition lock fail. MY 2000 ZTS is absolutely the worst car I've ever owned. It took the full three years to repair a suspension problem and about six other defects in addition to the recalls. The dealer claims he's unaware of the problem. The NHTSA website has 133 ignition lock failures reported, soon to be 134. I CAN UNEQUIVOCALLY STATE I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT.

I feel the same way Gramps. This is my last Ford as well, unless they do some major changes. The extended warrenty is a start, but my next vehicle is going to be a Jeep or Dodge.

My has locked up, and the only way I can get it to start is hit the end of the key with my hand. Jamming the key further intio the ignition.

Mine locked up 6 months ago. I got the ignition to turn and drove the car immediately to the dealership. It cost me 50.00 for the deductible on the Ford ESP. Never buy a Ford without an extended warranty. 6 recalls and 4 emergency repairs. Looking at a Honda or Toyota next.

There will be no recall, no matter how many cars experience the same problem. The ignition lock trouble is not considered to be a safety issue (huge inconvinience - yes, but not safety related). Ford would issue a recall if for some reason the steering wheel was jamming on the road while you're still driving, not sitting in your parking lot. |
