Hey guys, I need some input on a problem I am having on my 2000 Focus LX. I notice that sometimes when accelerating from a stop, my engine's RPMs will surge unusually high as I apply pressure to the gas pedal. This will happen before the power seems to kick in at the wheels. It's as if I am revving it in neutral, then throwing it into drive. It also seems to take slightly longer than it should to decrease the engine's RPMs, when I go to apply the brakes to stop. Almost like a delay. It would do this intermittently, and just recently it has seem to have become worse. The "CEL" has also come on and will not go off. I don't know if that is related to the issue at hand but do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? What are they usually indicative of?

I would get the code read first. Autozone or similar can usually do that for free. Having the code will give you a place to start.

Ok, got the code and it was a P1405. It seems the DPFE or EGR need to be fixed. Is it actually possible to clean them without replacing? Let me know if any of you folks have done this with good results. Thanks!
