First off, how are you measuring your MPG? Are you taking the amount of miles you drive and dividing it by the amount of gas you used?

A lot of other factors will affect your mileage:

- running the car's a/c compressor or windshield defroster/defogger
- extensive stop-and-go driving
- automatic versus manuall transmission (you didn't post what tranny you have)
- do you drive "like a granny" or do you tend to boot the car and take corners hard?
- gas formulation being used at the gas station(s) you're filling up at (especially if you're in a colder climate, the recipe used by gas companies might be different, and you'll end up using more gas)

Sorry!...

Its an Auto...

Using Chevron 87 Octane.

on an average tank I let it go no lower than the 3 quarter mark....So I usually get bout 145miles doing suburbia driving...stop & go...etc..

Now driving on the freeway...going like 75MPH...I can get 189miles on a tank.

That just seems VERY low for a 4-Banger.

My other car is a Scion tC w/ a 2.4 Liter DOHC engine that get Twice the MPG's as the Focus...

Should the Focus be getting better MPG's?....since its Smaller & Lighter?

Stop being lazy and shift your own gears The autos on these cars do kill the mileage. That being said, your mileage does seem low. I average 32-34 w/ my mostly highway commute. I've gotten as high as 39. In town, I figure I get somewhere in the mid 20's.
