I had this a few months back, my fan came on intermittently and went off, temperature dial didnt change and it came on during a short journey.
Subsequently my thermostat a month or so later packed up and needed to be changed, not sure if linked or not. But its best to be aware that it may happen. |

No worries,
It was like that with me, on when the engine was cold too. Id done nearly 1000 miles the week before and got back to my home on the Sunday, I had a new job starting on the monday, jumped in the car, started it up, 3 miles down the road i had the temperature light come on and the needle rose to the red, pulled the car over and opened up the bonnet and the water in the expansion tank was bubbling up. My car is 9 years old so understandably some things need changing. Id suggest giving it a go, but then again your focus may be different to mine (im not sure how much the UK and US focus's differ) On mine, it was located behind the alternator, so a case of removing serpentine belt and alternator, and there it is. Its worth a shot as its fairly inexpensive to do, think my thermostat was £12 and about 30 minutes to an hour to change. Im no mechanic but i like to have a go. |
