Default Re: negative camber

No experience, no knowledge of said kit. Sorry. But, I have an alternative suggestion....

One way to change your camber is to grind (elongate) the shock tower attachment holes for the strut. It's common practice here in Vehicle Engineering at Ford, but for it to be legal in H-Stock it must be in the factory service manual.

Has anyone found it in the factory service manual?

BTW..... The factory specs allow the camber to be -1.85 degrees and still be in spec!!!!!

Groot, the strut does not attach that way (like a VW). It's hard to explain it, but you can't adjust it that way, take a look at your strut.

The bottom just kind of "plugs into" a hole in the spindle.

Could you "slot" the top mounts?

Good input, slotting the holes is exactly what I was suggesting. P-51, your point is not lost on me, but, the boys at Roush (they're building the prototype SVT Foci) do it, so there must be a way. I'll have to go there tomorrow and ask one of the techs specifically about how they do it. I'll post the feedback.

groot,

You said that the camber can be changed to -1.85° and still be in spec. Does that mean that I can get a maximum of -1.85° without any kit?

Shoot, I thought you meant slotting holes on the bottom mounting "ears" and using eccentric bolts like on a Mustang or something.

Yeah, the top mounts *could* work.

Oh yeah, on that 1.85* camber. No, there is no adjustability even within that window. That spec means just means that it can leave the factory with that much camber. It allows for the bar to be built crooked.

Unfortunately, not. It means that if a Focus gets in an accident, Ford doesn't do anything about the front camber until it exceeds -1.85 degrees. Once it exceeds that spec, Ford will fix it.

So that means that the kit is the way to go, right? Have any of you done this? My goal is to get rid of the massive amounts of plowing it does into turns. My plan is to adjust the camber to ~ -2° (with the kit I guess) and try it at the next autocross. Then if that is not enough, maybe buying a stiffer rear swaybar (I'm already out of the stock class with the header I have - CSP). I'd rather it not get too tail happy. What do you think?

If you're in Street Prepared, go ahead and slot the holes. It's allowed by the rules (para 14.8.d) and it's free.

Default negative camber

Its me. Same question from the Suspension forum. Hopefully someone will actually read this and answer the question I wrote. Does anyone have any experience with the Ford kit to change the camber in the front?
