Default Autocross

Well, I took my Focus to an SCCA autocross at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI today. While not my first autocross ever, it was the first in the focus. As I was registering, some of the guys said that they hadn't had a focus entered in the autocross yet. Well low and behold, there were two ZX3s in the races. There was also a black ZX3 with some 17"s and a focaljet sticker in the rear window (anyone?)

I ran novice class, and took 7th out of 32 entries, and got a trophy! (thus making me ineligable to compete in the novice class) Now I need to get a suspension set up to make the ol' ZX3 corner better.

I highly recommend it to anyone!

You might want to check the "Focus on Motorsport" forum a bit further down the page. One of the moderators will probably move this thread there shortly.

As far as suspension upgrades go, you need to decided which class you want to run in. If you want to keep your Focus in H-Stock (I think) then you're basicially limited to dampers (and of cousre tires).

If you want to move up to STS/STR then you can do much more. And of course the mod/prepared classes allow quite a bit of modifications to the suspension.

That was my black Focus.I came down to see what it was all about.I was thinking I might enter the next one on Sep.16th.I was surprised to see the 2 Focuses there because I checked the results from earlier races and there were none.
Are you going to the Sep.16th race hatched?

I don't know if I am gonna go or not. Is it at Miller Park, or in Madison, or is it the one at the State Fair? (I will look it up)

I was the other Focus at last weekend's auto-x, the blue one. I'm planning on going to the State Fair Park event on the 16th. I had way too much fun to miss the next event. I was surprised how fun this car is on an autocross course. Hope to see more Foci at the autox's.

To answer a post from above: Practice, Practice, Practice in order to become a better autcrosser. Go to as many events as you can and ask for an instructor. My opinion would be to leave the car completely stock and learn how to drive the car, which is what I'm doing. This winter I'll be getting a cat back exhaust, air filter, extra set of rims (w/ 1/4" offset from OEM, if needed to fit bigger tires)with R compound tires, adjustable dampers, adjustable front sway bar (if anyone makes one), and plug wires. This will keep me in SCCA's H Stock. Another important piece of advice is to know when to go slow and when to push the car. Sometimes slowing down will bring the autocross times down.

I just did my first auto-x in Nazareth, PA last sunday. I have nothing done to the car because i have only had it for a week and a half at that time. (its been almost 3 weeks now). I didnt do too bad for never entering into an auto-x before. My bf who has an Impreza and tons of stuff done to it got a 42 and i got a 49 as my best. So maybe i will be in competition when i get some good mods on the car. The next one by my house is in october so maybe by then i will have an exhaust and intake and hopefully suspension too. if the money fairy comes to my door!
