Default Import Nationals-7 second Focus!!!!

Went to the import nationals and say to mighty fast Foci. A ZX3 that ran a 7.66(fastest of the day) and a Wagon that ran a 7.93. Pretty awesome!!! There was also a Green ZX3 w/the wrap around lower spoiler and what looked like MR12's that made a few runs. Here are a few pics of the ZX3's engine, the ZX3 and the wagon.

Just a rant: Whoever organized this event has to be the worst ever!! I think there may have been a few hundred people (as you can see on the pic of the ZX3) there to watch. Pitiful. I don't even recall any advertiseng. If it weren't for the guys in the Team Lonestar forum I would'nt have known. As big as this hobby is becoming, and as many modded cars are running around Houston, you would think they would have the notion to advertise. I mean Summit Racing and NHRA backing it, you gotta wonder what happened.

Oh well it was cool to see anyway.

I knew one of the Foci had to be Simrock's NIRA ride when you said it did a sub-8 second pass. That car kicks major bootie.

Yes, the red/white car is Simrock's ride(points leader BTW)and it does have Einstein on the hood. His tim ewould have been faster but he had a bit of hop on takeoff, but he recovered quickly and just blew down the track.

BTW, if anyone knows who it was in the Green ZX3, I've got a couple of pics of their run if they want 'em.

Is this 7 second run an 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile?

BTW, how does the Focus fit in as an import? I think the whole import racing scene should change it's name to "compact racing". I am extremely glad the Focus is doing well.

It is funny, I was trying to get a Brazilian sold 1973 Ford Maverick into import racing and was denied. Sure the Maverick was sold in America too, but this car was sold outside of USA and then imported later in it's life, thus making it an import right? I think they denied me due to the 351 Windsor V8 I had shoved into it. So does this make the import racing scene loyal to only rotary and 4 cyl engines? If so, why not rename it "midget engine racing".

Oh well, just speaking out.

The NIRA events are not only for imports. If you had a 4 or 6 cyl in that car you could have run. I went to an event and saw a isuzu p\u with a sb chevy running brackets. But that is about all they will let you do

If I recall correctly Simrock's Foci is listed as a 1999 model, so it probably would be considered an import as the only 99 Focus cars were European made (but there doesn't appear to be anything remotely stock on that car, except maybe the body). The engine sure as heck isn't a Zetec, but instead they stuck in a Ford Cosworth Inline 6. I can't remember what air induction system it had, be it turbo, supercharged or just nitrous. And of course it is rear wheel drive. Basically try to imagine a compact pro mod or pro stock with a Focus body and you get the idea.

As far as Joe Morgan's wagon, check out the latest issue of Import Tuner. It's not featured, but there is a shot of it in there.
To quote the October 2001 issue of Import Tuner:
"...Now Joe is back with a new weapon, a Focus wagon powered by a 2.3 liter Pinto motor."
Import Tuner #31, Oct. 2001 p49
