FSP Car update - 275 Hoosiers - insane grip! - Focaljet

The wheels are Kodiak 15x8.5 three piece with 225/50-15 710s... makes maximum use of the 225.

Those future 275 Hoosiers should fit as well, and a wider outer wheel piece is always possible if need be.

How much do the wheels weigh? Why did you have to cut for the 225's? Offset? I thought the 275 Hoosiers were out?

They are 12lbs or so. We bought eight of them so we can experiment a little.

The 225s are monster-sized on an 8.5" wheel... like a full inch or more wider than they were on the 7"... so they need clearancing, especially when combined with a car that is really low.

The backspacing is pretty much identical to the 42mm offset Centerlines we were running, they just grew outward.

The Hoosiers aren't yet available for purchase, but we'll give them a shot when they arrive. They're a full .8" shorter, which could make things interesting.

It actually won't be left ugly. We're going to add a few non-functional pounds back on the body in the form of fender flares. Maybe we can make them functional if we call them "Urethane Cone Deflectors".

I'm assuming you're running a square wheel/tire setup or are you experimenting with some stagger?

I'd have to look at the wheel order sheet to remember exactly what we specified.

We're going to modify a set of existing flares to suit the task... and then use the Air Force Reserve Focus trick of tweaking the stock bumpers to meet the flares.

Rear inside clearance is a bit less than a fingerwidth... clearance to fender lip SHOULD be good... it just barely touched uncut, so the 1/2" I trimmed in the back should take care of it.

The are indeed square... no stagger at this point.

This is the first venture outside of the cheapie 7" wheel realm, so we'll see just how much there is to learn. Sunday is the first event of the year... I hope it is dry!

Oh, BTW....FYI you don't have to run the ATI sticker this year at National events...they've been dropped as a sponsor by SCCA. You will want to get the Pace American one for the contigency where they give away a $14,000 trailer for the most consistent performance.

They're F2 endlinks... beefy in design, but they aren't long enough to allow for what I'd hoped they'd work for, which is to relocate the bar to the stock position.

Regardless, they probably won't break and they can be used to remove preload. (Or add if you're corner weighting a stock class car.)

couldn't you just make your own rod ends with some rod end bearings and some roundstock of some type?

how much metal did you have to trim?

Perhaps, so, but even at 45mm, there is no way they'd have fit inside the fenders.
