Default BEWARE: Poor bolt in cage mounting

Or weld in for that matter
Make sure you have excessive foot plate surface area PLEASE!

http://forums.themustangsource.com/s....php?p=5753663
This is what can happen if the plates are too small in a roll over situation. This is an extreme case, but these things can happen, so make it safe ladies and gents.

Makes me wonder how mine would have held up, even though it was welded in. Thanks Jeff, as an engineer I do like to see these photos (I don't like to see people injured, and both were lucky in this case) so I can adapt my own designs to these situations.

OUCH! Not sure how the driver/passenger were unharmed, but glad to hear.

Have to hid this one from the wife. She gets all uptight when I start running my track data and looking at entry and exit speeds, ect.

OMG!! That was a S197 too- the earlier Mustangs were Much weaker. I have a bolt in 6 point cage, have it backed up some underneath. That is a huge eye opener, the perfect angle to rip the car apart

Wowser. It looked like the car was pretty level then it hit the fence which caused the car to flip.

So since this was posted i have been trolling the other boards posting this. Very scary since it looks like it was a decent job to begin with.

I've checked my setup and it 'seems' okay. Im no expert on the matter, but then again, i dont have a 625hp 3400lb mustang. Either way, eventually i plan on upgrading to a full 6 point cage. At least then someone competent can look it over.

From now until then talk to as many people as you can, and look at all kinds of pictures so you know what you want then get that whether someone says its overkill or not. There is no such thing as overkill with safety equipment.

You don't have to have 600+ hp to see an incident like this. I've seen spec miatas do barrel rolls over a corner worker's head. The problem here was not the roll structure itself, it was too little surface area in contact with the floor. But as has been mentioned, very rarely does that surface take a direct impact, most of the time there is more sideways load transferring shear into the surface. I think one of the members on here (or a wife) had a similar story except a front impact punched the front members of the full roll cage into the engine bay.

Oh yeah, i was by no means saying that just because i dont have a higher HP vehicle, that it is any excuse to have sketch equipment. Virtually any car can hit triple digit speeds and have a wreck similar to that one.

When i have time ill post up pics of the points of attachment, and get some opinions.

At least for the main hoop I am a fan of how mine was put in. always wondering how it can be made better though for when I get to finish the cage.

for the rest I go back and forth on what I would like for the front half, but that's a long way down the road so I've got time.

Here is the rest of my bar for reference,

It never would have turned out this well if it wasn't for Brad's input along with my friend/builder being very open to suggestions!

*Where's that damn blush smiley...*

Thanks Jeff. That setup looks really nice. Much nicer than mine (especially the welds), but I needed to keep the rear interior for the SoloII class I was running. Here's a few pics of mine.
