Default MTX-75 metal shift tower part number

I did a search, but did not find a part number for the Contour/Mystique MTX-75 metal shift tower. My crappy-ass plastic one is a hair away from breaking in half. Good thing I removed the console for carpet removal or I would not have seen it.Anyone?

I am hoping they are still available from Ford.Guess I'll just order a 99 Contour MTX tower and hope it comes metal. If not,I can send it back.It would be easier if I had the part number. I have an A/X event the 5th and a two day time trial run at NHMS the 8th/9th so it's not a good time to break.
(when IS a good time to break? )

Found a metal base. MUCH better than the stock POS plastic Focus one.If you really shift your car find one of these babys! Fits perfectly too! Shame Ford does not offer the metal one any more.

Suprised to hear you guys say these things. We Cougars are upgrading to the "crappy" plastic shift tower. I could find you a used metal tower fairly cheap.

The plastic bases break. I can't imagine breaking the metal base, ever. It is built like a brick shet house.I removed the square crappy plastic piece that the through bolts for the shifter screwed into on the metal unit and used bolts and nuts to hold it together. NFW will this shifter assy ever break again.Don't know why anyone would replace a metal one with plastic.

So where did the lovely metal base come from? - or did I miss something?

You can find them in 98-99 Contours (with a manual of course).
I have heard some early Cougars also had the metal base but I don't know for sure.
