Exclamation Mtx75 help!!!!

Drivin on a back road, makin a regular shift from 2nd to 3rd, prob right around 25 mph. All of a sudden i had no feeling in the shifter. BUt there was no noise, no pop, no grind nothin. Now its stuck in 2nd gear, the shifter moves around, and the cable works just fine all the way from the tower to the tranny itself, just none of the gears engage. You can move the shifter round in circles and nothin happens. Local garage said it could possibly be a "shift selector" that broke. But they are sendin a tranny guy out to come identify it for sure. I just have faith in the people on this site, so I was wonderin if anyone had some insight...

This is a common Focus problem. There are many posts about this. Search for "Shifter Pin".

Here's one of them.

Yup I remember the latch busting a few times when I first bought my Focus. Replaced the shifter cable never had a problem since, still don't know why the original cable caused the latch at the stick to keep breaking.

So the shifter pin is at the tranny side? or in the shift tower?

Pop the boot off the shifter and see if its the latch attached to the shifter would be right at the front. If not then check at the transmission itself.

Ocasionally the bushing tears out of the cable end on the white end(lower cable) of the transmission side. Take a look for this.

I Had The Same Problem And All The External Linkage Moved Fine. Remove Your Air Cleaner, Support The Tranny With A Jack, Remove The Tranny Mount, Disconnect The Shift Cables, Remove The Shift Plate. You Will Find That The Roll Pin Inside Has Probably Sheared Off.

Later
