Arrow Rear Drum to Full Disk Brake Conversion Kit----> Your Thoughts Count!

We at Steeda are considering some new part and kit ideas that no one else has ever released before.

What would be your throughts on a conversion kit that would completely replace your stock rear drum brakes with full disks and floating calipers?

This kit would most likely include....
-Bolt on rear disk hub/axle assemblies
-Right and left disks and single piston calipers
-All brake lines required
-Emergency hand brake linkage
-All nuts, bolts, and other external parts needed for install
-Detailed step-by-step installation instructions and tech support

Before we would produce a kit like this, we want to know what the Focus comunity thinks of the idea. Let us know what you think should all be included, and how much you would like to roughly pay for such a kit if it existed? Remember, all of these parts would be brand new Ford parts, nothing used or salvaged.

Let us know if you think this would be a good idea or not, and why.... Do you think it would sell? We at Steeda want to know your opinions and thoughts! Your impressions count!

Feel free to enter in this thread any question or comments you may have at all about such a kit. We'll do our best to answer your questions, and see if a conversion kit like this might lie in the future...

Thank you for your time, and please view our other "opinion threads" in our forum and let us know what you think about those also.

I, personally, would LOVE something like this. but, it'd have to be 500 or under for me to even consider it, but i have a tighter budget than most.

This is a great idea. I have had nothing but trouble with the stock rear drum brakes (poor wear, stuck automatic adjusters, noise). Will your kit work with the stock 15" rims?

Thanks.

That's going to be difficult as the SVT kit can be had for less than $800 for both rear disc and larger front discs for non-SVT cars.

I would think your margin would be cost prohibitive, but I'm not the one trying to bring it to market, so can't say for sure. The more profit you want out of that margin, the more you're going to push people into purchasing the SVT kit.

just my opinion.

The parts we would offer would most likely be Brand New Ford SVT parts.

Your price quote is for used salvaged parts correct? The main point of our kit is that every component would be Brand New, come with full installation instructions, and be backed by our top notch technical support if needed.

I can see your point, and thank you for your input, but buying new, clean parts apposed to salvaged scrap yard take-offs, can be very appealing to alot of people.

Salvaged brake and suspension pieces can be kind of scary when purchased salvaged. It's easy for them to be slightly damaged or "tweaked" in an accident. They can be tweaked so little that it isn't even noticable to the naked eye, but when bolted up you can run into alignment problems, etc.... I know this from experience.

By offering a kit with all new liscensed Ford parts and full support, we would take the "iffyness" out of rear disk installation on a drum equiped vehicle.

I believe it would work with 15" rims as long as your rim offset is correct.

Ok, thank you for your input!

This is what I want to see!

What would others expect to pay for such a kit?

The SVT kit is available for about $800 new from Steve.

Maybe try something new/different. I don't really know much about brakes but possibly something like a multipiston aluminum caliper to fit the svt front brakes?

Ooh mulit piston fron caliper wouldn't be half bad.

As far as the conversion kit i honestly couldn't see myself paying more than 500-600 for it.

A muitl piston would be a good idea for the rear but that would get expensive as our parking brake is in the caliper housing. So then you would have to seperate the two or find an aftermarket caliper that could do both.

under 500 and make it fairly easy to install, with no serious modification to axle, car etc. and i would probably buy one immediately upon the products release

under 400 would make it appealing, given that the SVT kit can be had for about 800 plus shipping.

Just my 2 cents.

Tough call. The genuine SVT kit is out already. I say an upgrade would be to market a multipiston front kit for use with SVT knuckles. You might have a head start given your reputation.

I would pay around $400 for a kit to covert the rear drum to full disk brake... I hate the drum.. is ungly and hard to take off.

Nick, I would be interested. I hate the look of my drums, and if its from Steeda I get My discount too. So, thats even better. Is that the set up thats on #22? Dario was telling me that it is a Ford Racing conversion on the 22 I was wondering if they are the same.
Thanks Kristin

I don't believe so. I know my 2005 has ABS. May even be available with other Foci as well.
