Default Steeda Motormount.. ripped in half.

Hey..

I was driving along the highway yesterday. and BOOM, the car suddenly veers to the right on the highway during rush hour.

so I pull over, get out, and the Steeda Passenger side motor mount completely ripped in half. broke right down its crease. I was actually quite surprised I didnt drop the motor onto the highway or kill myself, but yeah, I noticed that the join is very thin, close to not even a 1/2 inch thick.

dont know what to do, the car is stranded and I dont have a motor mount, any suggestions? I can grab pics of it later (left my camera at work)

Ok, I'v had a OEM motor mount do the same thing. Is this something prone with this style of mount or is it just bad luck? I'm working on my second OEM mount (passenger) and it's about ready to break as well. I'm sorry if I'm highjacking the thread.

Well my Steeda mounts right and left holded enough pressure of a 40 inch jump with 45 miles/hour when the front side of the car virtually went into the ground. The metope nearly splitted in three pieces and the SVT header bonded like gordian knot
I dont know mate I only had to change the propylethane inserts which trully dematerialized!...you are surely unlucky ...

The reason some of our first generation motor mounts break is due to them being installed backwards. It was difficult to determine which direction to install them. We performed a running change in the mounts that makes it very difficult to install them backwards. So as geostef mentioned above our mounts are VERY strong and the breakage was not due to a Steeda product flaw.

It depends on who you got it from. Some of our resellers may still have old ones in stock.

Send me a PM if you were not fully taken care of by Fred and I'll make sure everything goes smooth for you.

I want to float this idea around to you guys, right now i dont have a vice to remove the mount from the bracket so i can put back on another mount, I am going to a local ford dealer where they will probably do it for free, but I am wondering if the place charges me some money if I could get relief on that? that would make things square in my mind (if they decide to charge me)

So I am curious how you install them backwards? I had a passenger side mount fail in an identical way this weekend on my rally car? I would like to figure out if it was an install problem or if the mounts design is not suitable for my application.

The mount looked like is sheered right along the machining marks when it transitions from section bolted to the motor to the section that is bolted to the car. I will post a couple of pictures when I get home this evening.

Also, I called the support number trying to ask about the differences between the 2 versions and was blown off by the guy on the phone. He said that he would have to check with manufacturing and I was racing so that is why the mount failed.

when I think back on it it was probably a torque issue. I torqued that S.O.B. down pretty hard and without using a torque wrench or with any idea WHAT the torque spec could have been.

but other than that, having someone tow the car 50kms bouncing up and down on a highway then on rural roads, with a STIFF engine mount was the thing that did it in, without allowing the bolts to move to much it just ripped in half. I didn't put it on backwards.

Default Re: Steeda Motormount.. ripped in half.

Torque should not be an issue. The bolt should be tight. Mine was torqued to the spec in the ford manual. If the mount can't handle driving down a bumpy road then it is a down grade from the stock mount.

Here are the pictures of my failure. To me it looks like the offset in the mount just ripped apart along the machining marks in the aluminum. See the stair step appearance on the part that was left on the motor. This offset is not present on the factory mount so it would be nearly impossible for a factory mount to fail this way. I am still interested in how the mount could be put on backward.

thats how mine broke too.

and im not talking tight like spec manual, im talking like over 100lbs of torque on it
